Samsung has reportedly acquired another component supplier from the LG camp. Local media now say that LG Innotek will provide Samsung Electronics with chip-on-film (CoF) solutions for the Galaxy A series, including the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72.
LG Innotek, a subsidiary of LG Corporation, recently lost a major customer, LG Electronics, as the group's mobile division confirmed that it would exit the market. This means fewer orders for LG Innotek, which used to supply CoF and other components to the mobile division.
The good news for LG Innotek is that the company has reportedly signed a deal with Samsung Electronics to supply chip-on-chip for the company's Galaxy A mid-range series. The two tech giants have previously collaborated on a smaller scale, but reports indicate that LG Innotek is now the sole supplier of chip-on-chip for the Galaxy A52. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A72 is reportedly equipped with chip-on-chip supplied by Stemco and Wonhwa.
IT Home learned that Samsung also secured LG's key display driver and touch IC supplier earlier this week. Silicon Works, a subsidiary of LX Group to be established, may provide these components for Samsung's mobile phone products planned to be launched in the second half of the year.
