Who would have thought that @Meizu Technology would give itself a mouthful of “poison milk”…

On the day of Qingming Festival (the 4th), @Meizu Technology released a "hell" copy. When promoting the selling points of its new models "zero ads, zero push notifications, and zero pre-installation", it used "commemorating the killed ads" as the promotional copy.

During a solemn festival when people should honor their ancestors and remember their ancestors, this advertisement caused displeasure among many netizens and was quickly criticized and made it to the top of Weibo's hot search list.

In the afternoon, @Meizu Technology issued an apology statement, saying that the Qingming Festival tweet "seriously used inappropriate words" and stated that it would control the content output of the platform more rigorously. Starting today, the official Weibo account will be suspended for two days.

Currently, the original blog post can no longer be searched.

Wan Zhiqiang, the head of marketing at Meizu Technology, also apologized and took the responsibility, explaining that he had put too much pressure on his staff, requiring them to publish at least one copy related to the selling points of the new phone every day, which led to the final execution error.

But on the other hand, Wan Zhiqiang seemed to have something else in his words, "Thank you for leading the trend and rushing to the hot search, you taught us a lesson... The promotion of pure systems without ads is always restricted by invisible forces. People who have used it know it is good, and those who have not used it always ridicule or selectively ignore it."

Both the official apology statement and Wan Zhiqiang's apology blog post still emphasize the selling points of the new phone: "We are eager to let users feel the benefits of a pure ad-free system" and "People who have used it know how good it is"... This also led some netizens to complain that "even the apology is still advertising."

In the comment section of @Meizu Technology's apology statement, the first hot comment had a netizen mentioning the classic saying of the founder Huang Zhang, "Make products down-to-earth and do marketing honestly", hoping that Meizu will not forget its original intention.

Some old fans were even more heartbroken and dug out Meizu's Qingming Festival copy in 2019. The theme at that time was "Don't forget those who shelter us from the wind and rain and carry the heavy burdens forward." In comparison with this, they couldn't help but feel a little disappointed.
