Affected by the epidemic, total smartphone sales in Russia fell 11% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2020, but the share of online sales continued to rise, from 34% in the third quarter of 2020 to 35% this quarter. 5G smartphones have begun to become popular in online channels, with shipments in the fourth quarter almost tripling compared to the third quarter. This growth was mainly driven by the release of the iPhone 12 series, Honor 30, Honor 30S and Xiaomi 10T. Apple has gained the highest 5G smartphone market share with the iPhone 12 series.

Samsung remained the most popular smartphone brand in Russia in the fourth quarter of 2020, but Xiaomi dominated online smartphone sales, analysts said. Thanks to the good performance of the iPhone 12 series and Huawei's supply shortage, Apple entered the top three in online smartphone sales in Russia for the first time. However, due to the lack of iPhone 12 Pro models and higher average selling prices, the initial sales of the iPhone 12 series were not ideal compared with the iPhone 11 series. Realme rose to fifth place in terms of total shipments in the fourth quarter of 2020, while ahead of OPPO in online channel sales.

Analysts believe that as sales of flagship smartphones grow, Huawei plans to launch some flagship models as well as some mid-range devices to provide consumers with more choices. In addition, Huawei plans to launch more than 40 product categories such as desktop computers, smart glasses and monitors in 2021 to diversify its business in Russia. Honor's new models after independence have the right to use Google Mobile Services (GMS) and may regain its market share.
