In recent years, with the increase in mobile phone functions, people's demand for screen size has also increased, but due to the need to take portability into consideration, it can only stay at around 6.5 inches.
However, mobile phone manufacturers are obviously not willing to stop there and have launched foldable screen mobile phones one after another. This has brought about a very serious problem, that is, the crease problem of the flexible screen after countless folds. Previously, mass-produced models of manufacturers such as Samsung and Huawei have all had relatively serious creases, which greatly affected the viewing experience.
In this regard, various mobile phone manufacturers are studying how to overcome screen creases, and Xiaomi is no exception.
Xiaomi folding screen patent exposure is expected to eliminate screen creases
According to the latest reports, Xiaomi officially announced a new patent on folding screen on February 2. This is an invention patent called "Flexible screen support structure, flexible screen structure and terminal device", with publication number CN112306147A and application date of July 2019.
The patent abstract shows that the present disclosure is about a support structure of a flexible screen, a flexible screen structure and a terminal device. The support module at least includes: a first support module located below the flexible screen, and a second support module located at a position corresponding to the first opening.
Xiaomi's new patent reduces creases through mechanical structure
Among them, the second support module forms a deformation protrusion in the direction away from the flexible screen. When the external force is removed, the deformation of the second support module is removed. By supporting the flexible screen corresponding to the first opening through the second support module, the probability of the flexible screen collapsing at the position of the first opening can be reduced, thereby making the appearance of the flexible screen smooth.
According to the patent introduction, Xiaomi will optimize the internal mechanical structure to effectively reduce the crease effect.
It is worth noting that the patent application date is July 2019, which means that Xiaomi’s first folding screen previously exposed is expected to be equipped with this solution, and it will be officially unveiled in the second half of this year.
Spy photos of Xiaomi's first folding screen engineering machine exposed online
According to the exposed spy photos of the engineering machine, Xiaomi's foldable screen mobile phone runs the MIUI 12 system and adopts an overall inward folding solution similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, which can better protect the folding screen from wear and tear.
But the picture shows that the crease in the center is very obvious. However, perhaps because it is an engineering machine, the machine is not equipped with the patented technology exposed this time. The effect of this technology should be seen in subsequent mass-produced machines, so let's wait and see.
