According to foreign media MacRumors, Spotify has now launched support for independent streaming on the Apple Watch app. With this feature, Spotify users can listen to music and podcasts from Spotify over WiFi or cellular networks without having to place an iPhone nearby.
Spotify has had an Apple Watch app for the past few years and has been testing standalone streaming capabilities for months. Previously, listening to Spotify required an iPhone, even on the GPS + Cellular version of the Apple Watch.
Now, Spotify will be able to stream directly from the Apple Watch to Bluetooth headphones, which is great for scenarios like exercising where you don’t need to use your phone.
IT Home learned that the feature will continue to be available in Beta form and is not yet available to all users, but Spotify has confirmed that it will be "rolled out" starting today. It may take some time for this feature to be available to all Apple Watch users.
