On August 17, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced further restrictions on Huawei and its affiliates’ use of U.S. technology and software, and added 38 new related companies to the Entity List. The ban took effect on September 15.
According to the Beijing News, Huawei Cloud Business President Zheng Yelai responded to the ban in an interview, saying that the company is facing increasingly complex global geopolitics and uncertainties, and that cloud itself is a software-based product. From an industry perspective, Huawei Cloud should be the least affected. In addition, he emphasized that the most important thing now is to improve software capabilities.
Huawei's cloud computing business, which provides cloud computing services and data storage to companies, including giving them access to artificial intelligence, has been growing rapidly. In January, Huawei placed the division on an equal footing with its smartphone and telecommunications equipment businesses.
