There was news before that Huawei would release the Kirin 9000 processor at the IFA2020 conference, but now it seems that they did not do so.
On the evening of September 3, Huawei held a speech event at IFA 2020 with the theme of "Vision and Commitment to Europe". Walter Gee, President of Huawei Consumer Business Group Europe, announced at the event that App Gallery, an application store developed by Huawei, has 33 million users in Europe.
Huawei currently has more than 800 partners and more than 100 product categories. Walter Ji said that Huawei has invested more than $82 billion in research and development over the past decade. Starting from 2018, Huawei plans to increase its R&D investment by an additional $100 billion in the next five years.
App Gallery is an alternative application platform to Google Play with 480 million monthly users worldwide, 33 million of which are in Europe. Due to restrictions by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Huawei can no longer access Google services on its latest smartphones, including the Play Store. In addition to claiming to be the third largest app store, Huawei has 1.6 million registered developers, up 76% from the first half of last year, with more than 5,000 apps available each month.
Kirin 9000 will use TSMC's 5nm process. Given that TSMC will no longer be able to ship to Huawei after September 15, the company is now working at full capacity to produce for Huawei.
Earlier, Yu Chengdong had made it clear that the Huawei Mate 40 is equipped with a new generation of Kirin 9000 chip, which will have more powerful 5G capabilities, more powerful AI processing capabilities, and more powerful CPU and GPU.
However, due to the second round of sanctions from the United States, Huawei's chip production only accepted orders before May 15, and production was stopped on September 15. So this year may be the last generation of Huawei's Kirin high-end chips.
