Recently, digital blogger @i冰宇宙 posted a Weibo post confirming that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra uses an LTPO low-power screen. He said that the minimum refresh rate of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 2 phones can be reduced to 1Hz. Specifically, the static picture is 1~11Hz, the video is 30~60Hz, and the game is 48~120Hz.
In fact, long before this conference was held, a user on the XDA forum broke the news that the Note 20 series would use LTPO low-power screens. LTPO is the abbreviation of Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide, and its Chinese name is "Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide". Previously, on the Apple Watch Series 5, Apple combined the characteristics of LTPS and IGZO to launch a faster response but lower power consumption LTPO solution to solve the current power consumption problem of electronic devices.
This technology can reduce the screen refresh rate to 1Hz, greatly reducing power consumption, and ensuring battery life while never turning off the screen. If a low-power OLED screen with an LTPO backplane is used, the user experience will be greatly improved. After all, the refresh rate of each scene is different for playing games, browsing the web, reading e-books, etc., which will definitely help save power.
