Huang Bo-jun, vice chairman and general manager of Taiwan's electronics foundry Wistron, said that the company has established an AI committee directly under the senior management, and has introduced AI applications in the company's business, including manufacturing, R&D, and human resources.

Huang Bojun attended the "AI Industry Launch and AI HUB Launch Conference" on the morning of the 2nd and said that Wistron began its digital transformation four years ago and established an AI committee two years ago. The committee currently has about 10 members. The committee is mainly responsible for promoting reforms and is ranked between the CEO and the chairman.

Wistron's introduction of AI has also brought together the strength of the group, including its subsidiary Wistron Education responsible for promoting AI training solutions and Wistron Qian providing cloud services.

Huang Bojun also did not deny that the introduction of AI did go through a painful period, mainly because there were problems that needed to be dealt with, such as slow speed, resource consumption and high costs. However, the company also used cloud software provided by Microsoft and Amazon's AWS to assist in the introduction of AI.

Huang Bojun shared that Wistron has basically completed its investment in smart manufacturing. Its main function is to detect abnormal production conditions from the perspective of artificial intelligence, including using AI tools to perform appearance inspections, such as whether the circuit board is normal, whether the component position is offset, whether the label on the casing is correct, etc. These tasks were originally performed manually.

At the same time, Wistron also uses AI to conduct personnel training, including using images to tell assembly personnel whether they are correct or not, to train new employees and speed up their learning process.

As for the R&D part, Huang Bojun pointed out that it is mainly through the use of AI to collect problems generated by past R&D and apply them to new product development, and directly predict through the database whether situations that have occurred in the past will occur, so as to avoid problems that may occur due to insufficient qualifications of engineers.

In addition, Wistron also uses AI to reduce staff turnover rates. Because the employee turnover rate in mainland China is high, using AI to reduce turnover rates can effectively reduce labor shortages during peak seasons.
