Officials claim that the new Galaxy Fold is a new category of mobile technology that will bring a new smartphone experience. Regarding what changes the Galaxy Fold will bring, Leifeng.com selected some parameters for the following introduction:
Screen: From the appearance, the foldable Infinity Flex Display is undoubtedly the latest breakthrough, and the screen uses a 7.3-inch dynamic AMOLED display. According to Samsung, this is the largest Galaxy smartphone screen to date.
Dimensions: [Folded] 62.8 x 160.9 x 15.7mm ~ 17.1mm [Unfolded] 117.9 x 160.9 x 6.9mm ~ 7.6mm
Camera: The Galaxy Fold has six main cameras, including a triple-camera combination on the rear, a camera on the side of the external screen, and a dual-camera combination on the internal screen.
Battery: [LTE model] 4380mAh; [5G model] 4235mAh
Processor: 7nm 8-core CPU
Memory: 12GB RAM, 512GB storage
Charging: compatible with wired charging and wireless charging
It is worth mentioning that Samsung mentioned in the statement that the company will provide a warranty plan for Galaxy Fold users. If the Galaxy Fold has a screen failure within one year, Samsung will bear 70% of the repair costs, only once.
For the re-launch of Galaxy Fold, its screen is still the focus of users' attention, not only because of its innovation of folding screen, but also because of its series of "crash reviews" a few months ago.
On April 15, 2019, Samsung distributed some trial units to some consumers and media organizations who had pre-ordered Galaxy Fold for evaluation. However, judging from some evaluation results, the folding screen of Samsung Galaxy Fold had many problems, which put this leading technology in the spotlight for a while.
Dieter Bohn of the American technology media The Verge wrote that his review unit had a "small bump" that could be felt at the hinge, causing the screen to "slightly warp." He speculated that there might be a small piece of debris under the bump; two days after receiving the review unit, the bump scratched the entire screen.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman also said that the Galaxy Fold screen he used had a malfunction, and he also said that he tore off the screen protective film. Coincidentally, YouTube technology reviewer Marques Brownlee also tore off the protective film and also experienced screen damage.
Steve Kovach, editor of the US financial media CNBC, could not use his review unit after two days without removing the protective film. The screen did not work properly. When he turned on the phone, the left screen of his review unit kept flashing.
As a result, the Galaxy Fold, which was originally scheduled to be released on April 26, was postponed. Then, in May, Samsung still failed to confirm the release date. According to Reuters, Samsung told consumers who had already pre-ordered the Galaxy Fold in an email that if the problem could not be resolved before May 31 and the customer did not confirm that he was still interested in it, Samsung would automatically cancel all orders.
At that time, Samsung also said that it would announce a new release date "in the coming weeks." However, on June 14, AT&T (American Telephone and Telegraph Company) announced that it would cancel pre-orders for Samsung's foldable phone Galaxy Fold and provide $100 compensation to customers who pre-ordered.
It wasn’t until July that Samsung finally announced the release date for the Galaxy Fold — September. Today, Samsung officially announced the release date as September 6. Can the Galaxy Fold, which is now available again, help Samsung maintain its position as the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, as Koh Dong-Jin (President of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business) said in an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro?
