On June 17, Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei expressed in an exchange and conversation with George Gilder, a well-known Forbes contributor, and Nicholas Negroponte, a columnist for Wired magazine, that he did not expect the United States' strategic determination to crack down on Huawei to be so great.
Ren Zhengfei said that he did not expect the U.S. strategic determination to crack down on Huawei to be so great, so unwavering, and so broad. Not only will the crackdown cut off the supply of parts, our participation in many international organizations, our strengthening of cooperation with universities, our use of anything with American components, and even our connection to networks with American components.
However, regarding the cooperation between Huawei and American companies, Ren Zhengfei emphasized that American companies are full of moral conscience. "They are very good. Our development over the past 30 years has not been separated from the support and help of all the advanced and developed companies in the world. So the setbacks we are facing now are not due to their intentions, but to the different views of some politicians on things."
Ren Zhengfei pointed out that Huawei had clearly realized a few years ago that when the company develops rapidly and reaches a certain level, there will be competitive pressure from this aspect. When the host asked whether Huawei would strengthen cooperation with American companies, Ren Zhengfei said, "Huawei strengthened cooperation with American companies when it was not strong before. Now that it is strong, why should we be afraid to cooperate with them?"
"In the next two years, we will be stronger and more determined to cooperate with American companies. We remain open, but some companies will be cautious about American suppliers, but this is not Huawei's attitude," Ren Zhengfei said.
It is worth mentioning that according to Reuters, Huawei's partners such as Intel, Xilinx and Qualcomm have negotiated with the US Department of Commerce to relax the ban on Huawei. Previously, Google executives had also communicated with the US Department of Commerce, attempting to lobby the other party to lift the ban so that Huawei's Android mobile phone system can continue to receive security updates.
