The Sino-US trade war is becoming increasingly fierce. The US even plans to include products such as mobile phones and laptops in the tariff list. Apple may be affected, which in turn dragged down Hon Hai's stock price in the early trading, falling below the NT$80 mark (the same below). The market value also reached NT$1.09 trillion at one point, losing NT$1.1 trillion, which is also the lowest since April.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced that it will impose additional tariffs on approximately US$300 billion worth of mainland exports, including related categories such as agricultural and livestock products, clothing, household goods, mobile phones, and laptops.

Among mobile phones and laptops, Apple is the brand with the largest production in mainland China. Once Apple's iPhone and MacBook are subject to additional tariffs, Hon Hai, as Apple's largest assembly partner, will probably be under considerable pressure.

On the other hand, the second half of the year is also Apple's peak sales season. If the trade war continues to spread, Hon Hai's peak season this year may be ruined.

Industry insiders said that the key is that although Apple has moved some iPhone production to areas outside the mainland, the iPhones produced are actually old models. The new models each year are almost all still produced in the mainland. In other words, even if Foxconn wants to move the iPhone production line to areas outside the mainland, even if it is recently reported that the production line is already in place in India, including employee proficiency and component supply chain, it is impossible to replace the mainland production base in a short period of time.

Therefore, if the US officially announces additional tariffs on products including mobile phones and laptops, the impact will inevitably be greater than the original categories.
