According to Phoenix.com, after poor performance in 2018, Huawei's carrier business will initiate reforms and transfer 20,000 employees to the consumer business.

It is understood that Huawei has three major businesses, including Carrier BG, Consumer BG and Enterprise BG.

On March 29, Huawei's Consumer Business Group (hereinafter referred to as CBG) held a "Corps Combat" rally and announced a revenue target of US$100 billion in three years and US$150 billion in five years. The company's reform focus this year was also revealed: CBG will be more independent and autonomous, while the carrier business (hereinafter referred to as CNBG) will accelerate its transformation.

Ren Zhengfei said that Huawei has implemented the CNBG reform plan, streamlined its organizational structure, and closed product lines and businesses that have been proven to be unsuccessful over the past few years.

CNBG is one of Huawei's three major business units, mainly engaged in communication base stations and network deployment for major operators around the world. This business maintained a double-digit growth rate before 2017, but it hit a ceiling starting in 2017. Data from Huawei's annual report shows that its year-on-year growth was 2.5% in 2017, 23.6% in 2016, 21.4% in 2015, and 16.4% in 2014.

In 2018, Huawei's CBG business sales revenue was 348.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 45.1%, ranking first; enterprise business EBG, sales revenue was 74.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.8%. Among them, CNBG business sales revenue was 294 billion yuan, not only surpassed by CBG, but also fell by 1.3% year-on-year.

In this context, Huawei's carrier business will initiate reforms, and some of the redundant employees will be transferred internally to the consumer business. According to reports, Huawei has not officially notified the specific proportion of employee transfers, but an internal employee of the consumer business revealed that the number of carrier business employees involved will exceed 20,000.

It is reported that Huawei currently has more than 180,000 employees worldwide, with more than 100,000 employees in its carrier business and more than 20,000 employees in its consumer business.

Huawei has not yet commented on the rumors that 20,000 employees from its operator business will be transferred to its consumer business.
