ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a premier supplier of high performance silicon solutions for energy efficient electronics, has introduced a new family of active clock generator integrated circuits (ICs) that manage electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) from clock sources, providing system-wide EMI reduction for all clock-dependent signals.
The new P3MS650100H and P3MS650103H low voltage complementary metal oxide semiconductor (LVCMOS) reduced peak EMI clock generators are ideal for space-constrained applications such as portable battery-powered devices, including mobile phones and tablets. EMI/RFI in these portable devices can be a major challenge, and compliance with regulations is a prerequisite. These versatile new devices are available in a small 4-pin WDFN package measuring only 1 mm x 1.2 mm x 0.8 mm. These spread spectrum clock generators offer the industry's smallest stand-alone active solution to reduce EMI/RFI at the clock source and downstream clock and data signals from the clock source.
The P3MS650100H and P3MS650103H support input voltages from 1.8 volts (V) to 3.3 V, with typical deviations of 0.45% to 1.4%, and reduce EMI/RFI at clock source frequencies from 15 megahertz (MHz) to 60 MHz. The operating temperature range is
-20 ?C to +85 ?C.
“The need to meet EMI regulations while controlling costs and minimizing printed circuit board (PCB) area is a significant challenge in mobile applications,” said Ryan Cameron, vice president of custom industrial and timing products at ON Semiconductor. “Our new EMI reduction ICs overcome these challenges by providing a cost-effective solution for reducing EMI/RFI at the clock source and downstream clock and data signals from the clock source. By implementing these devices early in the design cycle, design engineers can avoid alternative solutions and the addition of costly additional PCB layers or shielding to deal with EMI/RFI issues.”
ON Semiconductor plans to release more ICs in different frequency ranges and derivative versions in the first quarter of 2012.
