OPPO invented a device communication solution without a network using LoRa communication technology. Data is exchanged between two devices through an intermediate medium - wireless headphones, ensuring that smart terminals can communicate with wearable devices even when the network communication signal is poor, enhancing the user experience.
According to Jiwei.com, as wireless headphones and wearable devices are gradually favored by consumers, various communication technologies have also been developed. For example, in terms of long-distance communication, LoRa technology has emerged, which is a low-power local area network wireless standard established by Semtech.
Its biggest feature is that it can transmit farther than other wireless methods under the same power consumption conditions, achieving the unity of low power consumption and long distance. It can expand the distance of traditional wireless RF communication by 3-5 times under the same power consumption. For example, it can reach 2-5km in towns and 15km in suburbs.
Therefore, with the help of this technology, more tasks can be completed and some deficiencies of existing technologies can be made up. For example, when the mobile communication network is poor at the location of the communication device, normal communication cannot be carried out. For example, in some parking lots or scenic spots, the network communication signal is often poor, which makes the communication device unable to communicate effectively.
To this end, OPPO applied for an invention patent titled "Control method, device, mobile terminal, storage medium and wireless headset" (application number: 202010639194.5) on July 6, 2020, and the applicant was OPPO (Chongqing) Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd.
Based on the information currently disclosed in the patent, let us take a look at this LoRa-based communication solution.
As shown in the figure above, it is a structural diagram of the network-free communication control method invented in this patent, which includes a smart terminal 100, a wireless headset 200 and a wearable device 300. The wireless headset includes a first LoRa module, and the wearable device includes a second LoRa module. These two modules can communicate with each other.
LoRa technology is a long-distance wireless transmission technology based on spread spectrum technology. It is a type of low-power wide area network technology (LPWAN). Low-power wide area network technology is a wireless communication technology for long-distance and low-power communication needs in the Internet of Things. It has the characteristics of low cost, low power consumption, wide coverage and large connections.
The following figure is a flow chart of this control method:
The smart terminal first sends a control signal to the wireless headset to control the first LoRa module to receive the pairing signal of the second LoRa module. If the headset and the wearable device are paired, data will be transmitted between the headset and the wearable device. The connection between the smart terminal and the wireless headset can be connected via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.
It is worth noting that in the usage scenario of this solution, both the smart terminal and the wireless headset need to be in the hands of the user. In fact, the wearable device only has the ability to communicate with the wireless headset. This ability is achieved with the help of LoRa, a long-distance transmission method. Current smartphones generally do not have LoRa modules. Therefore, by using wireless headsets as data transfer stations in the non-network mode, communication between smartphones and wearable devices can be achieved.
In this way, not only does the smart terminal not need to be further processed, but the wireless headset also does not need to bear too many data processing tasks, reducing the hardware cost, volume and power consumption of the wireless headset. In order to further increase the data exchange capability of the wireless headset and give full play to the communication capability of LoRa, the patent also invented a multi-LoRa interaction solution, as shown in the following figure:
It can be seen that in this solution, the LoRa in the wireless headset is divided into two sub-modules 211 and 212, and are respectively placed on two Bluetooth headsets. In the wearable device, two LoRa sub-modules are also equipped for communicating with the two sub-modules in the wireless headset. This multi-LoRa communication solution can effectively increase the communication signal strength and improve the battery life of the wireless headset.
The above is the device communication solution invented by OPPO with the help of LoRa communication technology in the absence of a network. LoRa is used to exchange data between two devices through the intermediate medium - wireless headphones, ensuring that the smart terminal can communicate with the wearable device even when the network communication signal is poor, thereby enhancing the user experience.
