In the era of industrial automation, servo motors are the most common control parts in motion control. It is inevitable that servo motors will have some faults during operation. However, if we encounter some common faults, how will we solve them? Below we share some common servo motor faults and corresponding maintenance methods, hoping to help everyone.

1. Preliminary preparations for starting the servo motor:

1. Measure the insulation resistance.

2. Measure whether the power supply voltage and motor wiring meet the requirements.

3. Check whether the starting equipment is in good condition.

4. Check whether the fuse is in good condition.

5. Check whether the motor grounding and zero connection are good.

6. Check the transmission for defects.

7. Check whether the motor environment is good and ensure that there are no flammable materials.

2. The motor temperature rises too high or the motor starts to smoke.

Causes: Excessive load, two-phase operation, air duct obstruction, high operating environment temperature, stator winding short circuit or grounding, power supply voltage is too high or too low.

Maintenance: Reduce the load, select a large-capacity motor, clear the air duct, reduce the temperature, and use a multimeter to check the input power supply voltage.

3. The motor shell has sparks

Cause: The stator winding is damp, the insulation material is aging, and the lead wire collides with the junction box shell.

Repair: Replace the stator winding and dry it.

4. Abnormal motor vibration

Causes: Unbalanced rotor, bent shaft, unbalanced pulley, and uneven air gap lead to unilateral magnetic pull.

Maintenance: Correct dynamic and static balance, correct or replace the shaft, and readjust the air gap.

5. The three-phase current of the motor is unbalanced

Cause: The power supply voltage is seriously insufficient, the number of turns of the three phases is unequal, and the internal wiring is wrong.

Repair: Check power supply voltage, replace motor, correct wiring.

6. The motor no-load current is too large

Causes: Large air gap between stator and rotor, too few turns of stator winding, improper assembly.

Repair: Reduce the stator and rotor air gap, recheck and rewind, and reassemble.

7. The insulation resistance of the motor is significantly reduced

Cause: The stator is damp, there is too much dust, the insulation material is damaged or aged.

Maintenance: Drain and remove moisture, clean dust, repair or replace insulation materials.

The above are servo motor failures and repair methods.
