Novuton has announced a microprocessor (MPU) for advanced human-machine interface (HMI) applications. The Novuton MA35H0 series improves HMI processing performance. This series of MPUs is built on the 64/32-bit Arm Cortex-A35 core, providing powerful computing power in modern user interfaces.

MPUs are not necessary for all applications, especially those that require faster response times or small embedded processors. However, MPUs provide a middle-tier computing option that can solve complex problems without the power of a traditional computer. Nuvoton's MA35H0 series is such a useful middle-tier product that plays an important role between embedded MCUs and full-fledged computers.

The MA35H0 focuses on computing, not control. While the terms microprocessor and microcontroller are sometimes used interchangeably, the specifications of the MA35H0 series MPUs clearly emphasize their computing capabilities. For example, the series supports high-resolution displays, Gigabit Ethernet, and a variety of communication protocols for easy integration with external peripherals. Compared to ordinary microcontrollers, these devices also have powerful computing capabilities, supporting a 650 MHz clock with two Arm cores.

The MA35H0 series includes two 64/32-bit Arm Cortex-A35 cores with clock speeds up to 650 MHz. In addition to 32 KB of L1 cache and 512 KB of L2 cache per core, the MPU also includes 128 MB of internal DDR SDRAM, which eliminates the need for dedicated external memory by introducing more memory in a 24 mm2 package, making the MPU ideal for compute-intensive applications.

In addition, the MA35H0 series also supports DSP with built-in hardware floating-point unit, providing further computing power. In terms of security, the series supports Arm TrustZone secure boot, multiple encryption accelerators and isolated OTP memory to eliminate the possibility of sensitive data being stolen.

The MPU can also support 2D graphics and video with a resolution of up to 1280 × 800 (60 FPS), providing a way to interact with the user. This further increases the chip's potential in industrial HMI applications, such as smart home appliances or medical equipment. Designers can now obtain the MPU along with an evaluation board to test the performance of the series.

Overall, the new MA35H0 series MPU provides designers with a new tool when developing products that require fast, responsive human-computer interaction. While it is not a viable replacement for all processors, it can play an important role in certain applications due to its versatility and strong computing power.
