According to news on November 22, on November 21, Sun Wenlong, Chairman of the Open Atom Open Source Foundation, and Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation, signed a cooperation agreement on Oniro, an open source project based on OpenHarmony.
Oniro is an operating system based on the open source OpenHarmony launched by the Eclipse Foundation.
According to reports, this signing of the Open Atom Open Source Foundation has created two firsts:
First, for the first time in the history of open source, two foundations have jointly developed an open source ecosystem through code, branding, IP, certification, etc., providing a new model of cooperation for the open source industry and exploring a new development paradigm for open source global cooperation.
Second, it is the first time that a domestic open source foundation has completed a cooperation contract with an overseas foundation. Both parties will leverage their respective advantages in technical projects, developer ecology, and marketing activities to jointly promote the development of open source projects around the world.
According to the official introduction, Oniro aspires to be a transparent, vendor-neutral and independent alternative to IoT and edge operating systems. To this end, Oniro will provide a compatible independent implementation of OpenHarmony. According to the official website, Oniro is a distributed operating system that connects large and small consumer devices.
