In recent years, driverless cars (ADAS) have been very popular, and many auto giants have entered the market. So what hardware equipment do driverless cars need?

Self-driving cars rely on artificial intelligence (AI), visual computing, monitoring system modules, radar ranging system modules, and GPS global positioning modules to work together to allow the car's intelligent control system to automatically drive the car for users in a safe mode without human operation. What are the requirements for these modules when selecting crystal oscillators?

Higher and stricter requirements are also put forward for the stability, accuracy, and anti-interference of the normal operation of hardware. The chip (also called the central processing unit, CPU) is the brain responsible for data processing in the car's automatic driving system, and the electronic component that provides it with signals is the crystal oscillator. It is conceivable that the efficient response performance of the chip is inseparable from the crystal oscillator continuously providing a more stable and accurate signal source.

01

Monitoring system module

The video surveillance system of self-driving cars is equipped with several high-definition cameras on the car to identify traffic lights and identify moving objects, such as surrounding vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians or other objects with the help of the on-board computer. The chip crystal oscillator 12MHZ, 16MHZ, 24MHZ, 27MHZ, 25MHZ, 30MHZ, 54MHZ continuously sends accurate and stable signals to the chip, which is the basic guarantee for high-definition video capture and transmission.

02

Radar ranging system module

In the radar ranging system module, the crystal oscillator used is a temperature compensated crystal oscillator, which has the characteristic of ensuring accurate and stable signal transmission and reception. The radar ranging system provides indispensable key data to assist the central processor in providing the distance between objects around the car, so that the car can make timely and correct responses, such as emergency braking, deceleration, or avoidance.

03

GPS global positioning module

The GPS global positioning module can accurately locate the moving car in real time and provide the central processor with real-time road conditions, buildings, traffic information, etc. The crystal oscillator frequency responsible for accurate positioning is TCXO 26MHZ. The higher the accuracy, the better the stability and the more accurate the positioning.

04

Central data processing module

The function of the central data processing module (CPU) is to receive and process all data, which comes from the real-time images of the car monitoring camera, the distance change data between the car body and objects in the surrounding environment from the radar ranging system module, and the GPS real-time positioning data.

The central data processing module plays a core role in the car's automatic driving system. It is the headquarters. Therefore, it needs a crystal oscillator with a more stable frequency signal and greater driving power. The name of this crystal oscillator is a differential crystal oscillator. It has the function of outputting two frequency signals at the same time. Another advantage is that it has high reliability and high precision.

Perception Fusion for ADAS and Intelligent Driving
Sensor fusion is the ability to bring together inputs from multiple radars, lidars, and cameras to form a single model or image of the vehicle's surroundings. The resulting model is more accurate because it balances the strengths of the different sensors. Vehicle systems can then use the information provided through s
