Safety is an issue that cannot be ignored in household electrical and electronic products. Bad capacitors are prone to short circuits, leakage, and even fires in serious cases. In order to avoid these problems, safety capacitors were developed.

Safety capacitors are capacitors that discharge quickly after the external power supply is disconnected, and you won't feel an electric shock when you touch them. After using safety capacitors, even if the capacitor fails, it will not cause electric shock and will not endanger personal safety. The emergence of safety capacitors has replaced ordinary capacitors, greatly reducing the occurrence of problems.

Safety capacitors are divided into safety X capacitors and safety Y capacitors. Safety X capacitors are further divided into X1 capacitors, X2 capacitors and X3 capacitors. Safety X2 capacitors are more commonly used in electronic products.

Many X2 capacitors on the market have the words MPX and MKP printed on them. So what do the words MPX and MKP printed on X2 safety capacitors mean?

In fact, MPX and MKP represent the material of the capacitor. Both use polypropylene film as the medium, and zinc-aluminum alloy is attached to the surface of the film by vacuum evaporation to form electrodes, and capacitors are formed by non-inductive winding or lamination. It has high withstand voltage, high insulation resistance, good impedance frequency characteristics (small parasitic inductance), low impedance, strong self-healing properties, etc. It is suitable for high-frequency, DC, AC, coupling, and cross-pulse circuits. It is also suitable for situations where capacitor failure will not cause electric shock and endanger personal safety.

Why do some safety X2 capacitors have MKP printed on them, and some have MPX printed on them? This is because each manufacturer defines the name of the safety X2 capacitor differently. When declaring product categories, some manufacturers declare MPX, and some declare MKP. In fact, whether it is the safety X2 capacitors printed with MPX or MKP, they are all polypropylene film capacitors, and they all use metallized polypropylene film as the material, and are the same in use and application.
