Starting method of synchronous generator

The synchronous generator starting method is generally the following steps:

1. Preparation: Make sure the synchronous generator, main generator and system power supply are disconnected, and clear the charge between electrical components.

2. Inspection: Check whether the generator has any faults or abnormalities. At the same time, confirm whether the synchronous generator's synchronization ability meets the requirements, such as whether the voltage and frequency are stable.

3. Connection: Connect the synchronous generator to the system and confirm that the connection is correct.

4. Start the generator: Prepare the generator switch, and after confirming that the generator connection and position are correct, start the generator. At the same time, observe whether the voltage and frequency meet the requirements.

5. Make adjustments: Adjust the voltage and frequency until they meet the system requirements. If the synchronous generator does not start, check whether the synchronization signal is correct, such as whether the current, voltage and phase sequence match.

6. Connect the generator: After confirming that the synchronous generator matches the system, you can connect the generator and track the changes in voltage and frequency.

7. Load increase: Since the synchronous generator is started under a smaller load, the load should be gradually increased as needed until the system reaches full load operation.

How Synchronous Generators Work

A synchronous generator is a direct drive generator whose operating principle is based on the theory of rotating magnetic field. When the main engine sends out a stable frequency electrical load, the synchronous generator receives the electrical energy and converts it into a rotating magnetic field. This rotating magnetic field is consistent with the frequency and phase given by the external power grid, so that the generator can achieve synchronous operation.

During synchronous operation, when the generator output power is equal to the power required by the load, the unit speed remains stable and the generator output voltage is stable, which is the so-called "generator stator voltage". When the load changes, the generator speed will be adjusted accordingly to meet the load's power generation needs, thereby maintaining stable operation of the unit.

In addition, the voltage and current of the synchronous generator are also affected by the regulation of the excitation current. The excitation current is a control signal used to adjust the output voltage of the generator. When the load changes, the excitation current will also be adjusted accordingly to maintain a stable output voltage and power of the generator.
