How to connect the car speaker crossover

Crossover: INPUT: audio input WOOFER: midrange TWEETER: treble

In general, the crossover has the three interfaces as mentioned above. "INPUT" is the input terminal, which is divided into positive and negative poles. It is connected to the output terminal of a certain channel of the power amplifier. There is an audio cable in the middle. The length of the line should be appropriate. It should be noted here that the two ends of the audio cable should correspond to the positive and negative poles. "WOOFER" is the output terminal of the mid-bass speaker, and "TWEETER" is the output terminal of the tweeter. These two terminals are usually located at the other end of the crossover (on the same side), and they also have positive and negative poles. Use an audio cable to connect the positive and negative poles of the mid-bass speaker and the tweeter respectively. Also pay attention to the corresponding positive and negative poles of the audio cable. Normally, a set of crossover speakers should be equipped with two crossovers, 2 mid-bass speakers and 2 tweeters. They form a group of left and right channels respectively (1 crossover + 1 mid-bass speaker + 1 tweeter). The connection method is roughly as above, which is relatively simple.

How to connect the car audio crossover

If it is an LC crossover, the "+" in front of the crossover is connected to the "+" of the amplifier output, and the "-" is connected to the "-" of the amplifier output. You need to pay attention to the connection after the crossover. The crossover output has "H (high)" and "L (low)". If there is an intermediate frequency, there is also "M (middle)". Generally, there are only high and low. For the 12th order crossover (more commonly used), the "+" of the treble output is connected to the "-" of the speaker, and the "+" of the bass output is connected to the "+" of the speaker. In this way, the phase shift caused by LC can be compensated in the wiring. For the corresponding electronic crossover, directly connect the corresponding speaker according to the output of the amplifier connected to the crossover. Similarly, for the 12th order electronic crossover, the treble is still connected in reverse. For the 24th order crossover, the treble is connected in the positive direction ("+" connected to "+", "-" connected to "-").

How to connect the crossover to the speaker

The capacitor connected in series and the inductor in parallel is the high-frequency output, the capacitor connected in parallel and the inductor in series is the low-frequency output, and the capacitor and inductor connected in parallel and the capacitor and inductor in series in the crossover is the mid-range output!

If it is a -6dB crossover, the tweeter will only have series capacitors, the bass will only have series inductors, and the midrange may have series capacitors and parallel capacitors, or series inductors and parallel capacitors!

Is it necessary to add a crossover when modifying car audio?

It depends on what system

Generally, the original car has a passive frequency division system (a few cars have active frequency division, and some have semi-active frequency division). Passive frequency division system requires a frequency divider, because most tweeters cannot withstand excessive power and will burn out. Therefore, the original car usually connects a small capacitor in series with the tweeter for the most basic frequency division.

The same is true for upgrades and modifications. If it is a passive frequency division system, a frequency divider is needed to divide the frequency. If it is an active frequency division system, a frequency divider is not needed. Because the frequency has been cut before the power amplifier or on the power amplifier.

Is a car audio crossover necessary?

It depends on the function of the car amplifier you bought. A professional car amplifier does not need a crossover, because the amplifier has a built-in high-pass and low-pass filter switch, but it may not be for each channel. Many of them have a filter switch for the front left and right doors, and a filter switch for the rear left and right doors. If you add a crossover, you need a crossover for each door, or a crossover for each of the front left and right doors, and no crossover for the rear left and right doors, because the front left and right doors need to have a tweeter and a crossover to have a good effect! It is recommended to add a crossover so that the effect will be better!

If it is a passive frequency division system, it needs to rely on a frequency divider. If it is an active frequency division system, a frequency divider is not needed. Because the frequency has been cut before the power amplifier or on the power amplifier. Generally, the original car is a passive frequency division system (a few cars are active frequency division, and some are semi-active frequency division). Passive frequency division systems require frequency dividers because most tweeters cannot withstand excessive power and will burn out.
