What is Machine Vision?
Machine vision is a technology that uses computers and digital image processing technology to automatically identify, analyze and process visual information such as objects and scenes. It uses computers to process images, videos and other data to extract and analyze features such as object shape, color, texture, position, and motion, and then achieve tasks such as object recognition, classification, tracking, measurement, and detection.
Machine vision is to use machines to replace human eyes for measurement and judgment. Machine vision system refers to the process of converting captured targets into image signals through machine vision products (i.e. image capture devices, divided into CMOS and CCD), and transmitting them to a dedicated image processing system, which converts them into digital signals based on pixel distribution, brightness, color and other information; the image system performs various operations on these signals to extract the characteristics of the target, and then controls the operation of the equipment on site based on the results of the judgment.
The machine vision inspection system uses a CCD camera to convert the inspected target into an image signal, which is then transmitted to a dedicated image processing system. Based on pixel distribution, brightness, color and other information, it is converted into a digital signal. The image processing system performs various operations on these signals to extract the target's features, such as area, quantity, position, and length, and then outputs the results based on the preset tolerances and other conditions, including size, angle, number, qualified/unqualified, presence/absence, etc., to achieve automatic recognition.
Four major applications of machine vision
Machine vision can be said to be the soul window of industrial automation systems. From object/barcode recognition, product inspection, appearance dimension measurement to robot arm/transmission equipment positioning, machine vision technology can be used. Therefore, its application range is very wide, and the industry application fields are dazzling. The four major applications of machine vision include the following fields:
1. Industrial Automation: Machine vision technology can be used for automated production on industrial production lines, such as automatic inspection, classification and packaging of products. Through machine vision technology, the work efficiency and quality of industrial production lines can be improved.
2. Security monitoring: Machine vision technology can be used in the field of security monitoring, such as automatic monitoring of public places and traffic intersections, timely detection and handling of abnormal events. Through machine vision technology, the safety and security of social security can be increased.
3. Medical diagnosis: Machine vision technology can be used in the field of medical diagnosis, such as analyzing and identifying medical images, and assisting doctors in diagnosing and treating diseases. Through machine vision technology, the accuracy and efficiency of medical diagnosis can be improved.
4. Autonomous driving: Machine vision technology can be used in the field of autonomous driving, such as automatic perception and decision-making of the vehicle's surrounding environment to achieve autonomous driving. Through machine vision technology, traffic safety and efficiency can be improved and the incidence of traffic accidents can be reduced.
