Modbus protocol is a universal communication protocol that has been widely used in the field of industrial control today. According to its format, it can be divided into Modbus-RTU, Modbus-ASCII, and Modbus-TCP. The first two are suitable for serial communication control networks, such as RS485, RS232, etc., while Modbus-TCP is mainly used in control networks based on Ethernet TCP/IP communication. Through this protocol, controllers can communicate with each other or with other devices via a network (such as Ethernet).

Many factories need to integrate the data of various types of equipment on site for monitoring and management through a host computer software or device touch screen. Currently, most host computers use the Modbus TCP protocol, while a large number of field devices use the Modbus RTU protocol. The demand for Modbus TCP to access Modbus RTU devices is increasing.

Traditional industrial protocol conversion has caused a lot of hardship for many engineers, often requiring them to work overtime, so most of them would avoid these complex engineering problems. The emergence of industrial gateways can realize automatic parsing and conversion of industrial protocols. As long as engineers are familiar with the operation of the gateway, they can quickly realize remote monitoring of equipment and uploading and downloading of programs.

By building an industrial Internet of Things through a gateway, industrial equipment can be connected to multiple host devices and transmit data to each other, avoiding the time spent on ModbusTCP and ModbusRTU protocol parsing and conversion. The automated protocol parsing makes it easy for novices to use it, reducing personnel costs and time consumption.

The protocol conversion function of the IoT Broadlink Industrial Intelligent Gateway can quickly realize the conversion between Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP protocols!

Industrial field equipment collects data from multiple devices (such as PLCs, instruments, water and electricity meters of various brands) through the IoT Broadlink gateway. After the collected data is parsed and processed on the gateway side, the data format is converted into the Modbus TCP protocol and forwarded to the host computer (such as touch screen, host computer software: Poll, PLC, etc.), so as to realize the monitoring and management of data of various types of equipment on site through a host computer software or device touch screen.

Through the Modbus TCP forwarding function of the industrial intelligent gateway, it is also possible to upload industrial field equipment data of different protocols (modbus, opc, ppi, mpi...) to the cloud platform through the MQTT protocol at the same time, and convert it to the modbus tcp protocol and upload it to the local industrial software (such as configuration software) or PLC controller.
