This is a Class AB 6-10W audio amplifier circuit built using a TDA2002 or TDA2003 amplifier IC module. These are replacements for the original LM383 which is no longer available. It is easy to build and has minimal external components. The module is both short circuit and thermally protected. It can drive loads as low as 1.6 ohms and is capable of delivering over 10 watts from a 16 V supply.

Maximum output power is only achieved with a supply greater than 1A at 16V DC and using a 2 ohm speaker (or 2 x 4 ohm speakers in parallel). However, using a 12V DC, 1A supply into a 4 ohm load gives approximately 4W RMS.

The power supply should be well filtered to reduce mains hum, the onboard capacitors alone are not sufficient for this purpose but are necessary to ensure stability. If operated from batteries no additional filtering is necessary. If two boards are used for stereo then the power supply size will need to be doubled.
