Causes of water ingress to explosion-proof motors
The operator may not have been adequately trained, and flushing occurred while cleaning, causing water to enter some motors.
Treatment method for water ingress into explosion-proof motor
1. Disconnect the power supply and remove the explosion-proof motor power supply wiring;
2. Remove the front and rear end covers of the explosion-proof motor;
3. Use gasoline or kerosene to clean the explosion-proof motor bearing lubricant, and add lubricant again after drying;
4. Dry the explosion-proof motor stator in an oven or with a light bulb;
5. Wipe the explosion-proof motor rotor with a clean rag;
6. Check and handle the explosion-proof motor junction box;
7. The overall installation of the explosion-proof motor is restored, and it can be turned flexibly by hand without jamming;
8. Use an megohmmeter (500 or 1000V) to measure the insulation of the explosion-proof motor to the ground, and the insulation resistance must be greater than 0.5 megohms;
9. Connect the power supply and run it for a while (30 minutes). If there is no problem, it can be used.
After the explosion-proof motor is flooded or infiltrated with water, it must be inspected and repaired immediately to remove the moisture and impurities in it to prevent the explosion-proof motor from being damaged or scrapped.
Inspection and maintenance of water-proof explosion-proof motors
1. Remove the sludge and impurities on the outside of the explosion-proof motor, but do not rotate the motor shaft.
2. Disassemble the body of the explosion-proof motor, clean the sludge and water stains on the inner cavity of the shell, the rotor and the slip ring, check whether the winding is desoldered, whether the brush is rusted and stuck in the brush holder, whether the brush pressure is normal, and whether the brush is in close contact with the slip ring surface. If any fault is found, it should be eliminated.
3. Dry the windings of the explosion-proof motor. You can use an incandescent lamp to evaporate the moisture, or you can place it in a ventilated place to dry naturally. However, you must not use electric current heating or open flames to dry it, in order to prevent the windings of the explosion-proof motor from short-circuiting or burning the insulation layer. After drying, use a megohmmeter or multimeter to check the insulation performance of each winding. If poor insulation is found, it should be repaired.
4. Reassemble the explosion-proof motor and conduct a test run. If there are no problems during the test run, the motor can be put into use.
