According to foreign media reports, a three-year study found that Tesla has a 74% share of the US electric vehicle market. In the past three years, the study counted 568,881 electric vehicles sold in the United States, accounting for 97% of the entire US electric vehicle market. During the same period, Tesla sold 430,592 electric vehicles.

The study shows that in the past three years, Tesla Model 3 has sold a total of 296,392 units, accounting for 51% of the U.S. electric vehicle market share. According to the study, Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling electric vehicle in the United States.
Following the Model 3 are the Tesla Model S and Model X. The study shows that in the past three years, Tesla has sold 67,335 Model S sedans, accounting for 11.5% of the US electric vehicle market. During the same period, Tesla sold about 67,225 Model Xs, also accounting for 11.5% of the US electric vehicle market.
The Chevrolet Bolt ranked fourth with 57,629 units sold, accounting for 10% of the U.S. electric vehicle market over the past three years. Following the Bolt is the Nissan Leaf with a market share of 7% and sales of 38,310 units. Other electric vehicles in the top ten of the U.S. electric vehicle market include the BMW i3, Volkswagen e-Golf, Fiat 500E, Audi e-Tron and Kia Soul EV.
During last quarter's earnings call, Musk said the Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling luxury sedan in the first quarter of this year, and he also announced that Tesla's goal is to make the Tesla Model Y the best-selling car or truck in the world by 2022 or 2023.
The Tesla Model Y appears to be on its way to that goal. According to a small study by Car and Driver, the Tesla Model Y has begun to outsell the Model 3 in California. Musk has mentioned that the Model Y will eventually outsell the Model 3, Model S, and Model X combined.
