In the past two years, domestic semiconductors have been developing at an accelerated pace, and more and more semiconductor companies in specific fields have entered the public eye. Industry leaders including Alibaba, OPPO, Gree, Lenovo, etc. are frequently investing in semiconductor companies, among which Huawei and Xiaomi are the most frequent.
According to rough statistics, Huawei's Haobo Technology has invested in more than 20 semiconductor companies, Xiaomi has invested in 50 companies related to the semiconductor industry, and the two companies also have many jointly invested companies.
Global Semiconductor Observer has counted the semiconductor companies invested by Hubble Technology and Xiaomi.
According to Tianyancha data, Huawei Hubble Technology has invested in 24 semiconductor companies, covering multiple semiconductor fields, such as semiconductor material manufacturers Hantian Tiancheng, Shandong Tianyue, Xinyao Semiconductor; EDA companies NineCube, Lixin Software, Feipu Electronics; analog chip manufacturer SiRuiPu; CMOS image sensor company SmartSens, etc.
Compared with Huawei, Xiaomi's investment areas seem to be broader, and the task of Xiaomi's overseas investment in semiconductor companies mainly falls on the Xiaomi Changjiang Industrial Investment Fund.
From the perspective of investment areas, compared with Huawei, Xiaomi's investments are mainly concentrated in the mobile phone industry chain, such as polymer lithium battery company Guanyu Battery, ToF sensor chip manufacturer Lingming Electronics, new OLED material manufacturer Lumilan New Materials, and power management manufacturers Bi Yi Microelectronics and Nanxin Semiconductor.
In addition to the above, Xiaomi has also invested in Longshen Robotics, which makes industrial robots, Ankai Microelectronics, which makes core chips for IoT smart hardware, Speedcom Semiconductor, which makes WiFi 6 chipsets, and Shenqian Youshi, which makes artificial intelligence.
Of course, investment is a circle, and there are some overlaps in the companies invested by Xiaomi and Huawei.
According to statistics, the two companies have jointly invested in RF chip manufacturer Ruishi Chuangxin, VCSEL chip manufacturer Zonghui Xingguang, surface acoustic wave device manufacturer Haoda Electronics, as well as CMOS image sensor manufacturer SmartSens and RF front-end chip manufacturer Onray Micro.
Are smart cars the next step?
At present, the global mobile phone industry has entered a plateau period, with slow growth in mobile phone sales, so major companies are looking for the next outlet, and the smart car is comparable to or even better than the mobile phone. Therefore, Xiaomi, Huawei, Skyworth, etc. have all focused their attention on the field of smart cars.
Judging from the investment layout of Xiaomi and Huawei, both Xiaomi and Huawei have invested in companies related to lidar, such as Core Vision Microelectronics, Lingming Photonics, etc., and have jointly invested in CMOS image sensor company SmartSens.
In addition, Xiaomi also invested in BYD Semiconductor last year. These investments by Xiaomi are vaguely preparing for its entry into the smart car industry.
With the development of smart cars, automotive electronics will also receive more attention, so more and more automotive electronics-related companies will enter the investors' field of vision in the future.
