Xiaopeng Motors has launched its third mass-produced car after the Xiaopeng G3 and Xiaopeng P7 - the Xiaopeng P5, which is equipped with two laser radars, allowing the car to transform from a means of transportation to a mobile smart space.
On April 14, Beijing time, following the launch of the Xiaopeng G3 and Xiaopeng P7, Xiaopeng Motors welcomed the launch of its third mass-produced car, the new model Xiaopeng Motors P5. The theme of this press conference was "Intelligent Evolution, Smarter than What You See", which once again emphasized Xiaopeng Motors' focus on leading the intelligentization of automobiles.
The new Xiaopeng P5 is positioned between the existing Xiaopeng G3 and Xiaopeng P7, and is a pure electric sedan. In terms of appearance, it adopts the fastback design of the Xiaopeng P7, with a small ducktail formed above the trunk, and the most popular through-type front and tail lights, which has a very dynamic coupe design. In addition to the unique design of the model, it is worth mentioning that the Xiaopeng P5 car will be released 3 days earlier than the ARCFOX Alpha S equipped with Huawei HI, becoming the world's first mass-produced model equipped with laser radar.
Beauty, it is really beautiful
In addition to car intelligence, the main theme of this press conference also highlighted a "23-hour intelligent third space". Liao Qinghong, Vice President of Sales and Chief Marketing Officer of Xiaopeng Motors, explained that looking back on the development of mankind, any great product is "people-oriented" and respects the trend of historical development. For example, from feature phones to smartphones, the same is true in the field of travel. How to feel the interests of young people and solve their pain points. That is to open up a mobile and intelligent third space outside of the family space and work space. This is a leisure space for personal entertainment and an intimate space for the family, which brings people a safer and more pleasant mobile space enjoyment.
There are 24 hours in a day, but why is it a 23-hour mobile smart space? Liao Qinghong said that the definition of 23 hours is that Xiaopeng P5 can become the carrier of personal mobile space in any time period other than personal bathing and exercise, such as after work and leisure, rest during travel, watching football and movies in the evening, etc.
From the appearance, Xiaopeng P5 inherits the style of Xiaopeng P7, but unlike the past, Xiaopeng P5 adopts X-shaped design in headlight design, which is very similar to Xiaopeng logo, highly recognizable and original. Officials said that it adopted the X ROBOT FACE styling concept; inside, the in-car operating console adopts star track enveloping cockpit design, which is overall simple, coherent and highlights a home feeling. In the rear seat design, ultra-wide aviation headrests are used, which are softer and more comfortable.
In the central control part, Xiaopeng P5 uses an independent LCD instrument panel, and the central control touch screen uses the same inclined touch screen as the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class; the roof is equipped with an extra-large panoramic sunroof, the view above the head will appear larger, wider and brighter, and at the same time the sunshade design will not appear dazzling, which further enhances the internal comfort of Xiaopeng P5; in the rear trunk, the car has an extra-large space design, with 26 storage spaces in the car and a trunk space of up to 450L.
At the meeting, Xiaopeng Motors' chief designer Zhao Li further introduced the two service modes provided inside the Xiaopeng P5: the first is a "private cinema", where the front seats can be completely laid flat and seamlessly integrated with the rear seats. It is equipped with a projector, a refrigerator, and fragrances. In cinema mode, the interior of the car instantly becomes cinema mode, and lying in the cockpit allows you to experience a more comfortable viewing experience than in a cinema; the second is sleep mode, which provides an inflatable soft air mattress that originally matches the interior space of the car, and the four windows are also equipped with sunshades to enhance privacy.
In terms of body size, the Xiaopeng P5 car is slightly smaller than the Xiaopeng P7. It is 4808mm long, has a wheelbase of 2768mm, and has 167mm of rear legroom.
Expensive, it makes sense
As we all know, among the "Big Three" new car-making forces in China, NIO focuses on electric vehicles positioned in the high-end luxury field, directly targeting the strong brands such as BBA; Ideal focuses on extended-range vehicles and focuses on driving range; and Xiaopeng Motors focuses on vehicle intelligence and cost-effectiveness. The new Xiaopeng P5 car was released this time, directly replacing the fog lamp area on both sides with two laser radars, which is definitely a bright spot for car technology enthusiasts.
Liao Qinghong mentioned that "intelligent driving" and "intelligent interaction" are two important basic components of intelligence. In this part, Xiaopeng P5 mainly focuses on intelligent hardware and intelligent software.
Regarding the "hardware part", the automotive-grade laser radar equipped in the Xiaopeng P5 car is customized by Livox, a subsidiary of DJI. Compared with conventional radars, they have increased the detection distance to 150 meters and the horizontal FOV to 120°. The front and side dual-stage arrangement increases the field of view to 150°, with a point cloud density of 144 lines, an angular resolution of up to 0.16°, and a refresh rate of 20Hz in the center area.
To put it in human terms, compared with ordinary radar, laser radar has superior capabilities in accuracy, detection distance, detection range and anti-interference, etc., which can allow Xiaopeng P5 to go from "nearsightedness" to "pilot-level vision", "see" farther, wider and more accurately, react more sensitively and quickly, and safety can also be guaranteed accordingly.
Wu Xinzhou, vice president of XPeng Motors, said that starting with the XPILOT P5, XPeng has officially entered the XPILOT 3.5 era, expanding the high-speed scenarios that only account for 10% of the driving time to urban scenarios that account for 90% of the driving time. It can cope with vehicle congestion scenarios in urban conditions, identify the drivable range, identify small target objects, and identify detour areas, bringing automatic navigation-assisted driving closer to users' daily lives.
XPeng Motors has the world's best NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot), which is an automatic navigation-assisted driving system. NGP is based on the navigation route set by the user, and enables automatic navigation-assisted driving from point A to point B. Wu Xinzhou said frankly that the goal of XPILOT (autonomous driving) is to always be the world's number one.
In addition to the two laser radar technologies in front of the fog lights of the Xiaopeng P5, the Xiaopeng P5 also continues the configuration of the P7, with 32 sensors + 1 set of high-precision positioning units (GNSS+IMU), including 14 cameras, 5 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, RTK+IMU centimeter-level positioning, NVIDIA Xavier computing platform, Bosch iBooster brake assist system, and advanced driver assistance maps.
Regarding the "software part", the Xiaopeng P5 is equipped with an interactive cockpit with the Xmart OS3.0 system as the core, which has higher computing power and a smoother car system. Ji Yu, vice president of Xiaopeng Motors, said that intelligent interaction will continue to change with the development of autonomous driving technology. The Xiaopeng P5 realizes the interaction of human and machine co-driving, and people and cars drive the car together, thus realizing true intelligent driving.
Xiaopeng P5 realizes full-scenario voice interaction, complex needs, simple solutions. From self-developed application support to third-party application access, Xiaopeng P5 has a wealth of application scenarios, such as internal voice intelligent driving, just move your mouth to work with the built-in smart assistant to achieve driving; externally, it can be linked to other hardware, such as controlling and connecting to customized DJI drones, and realizing intelligent interconnection with the car's large screen, controlling the drone's intelligent flight through voice or large screen, and shooting and browsing images at any time.
Secondly, the Xiaopeng P5 also has a full-scenario digital ID, which enables digital key upgrades. It is reported that the current Xiaopeng P5 unlocking success rate has reached 8 nines, that is, 99.999999% safety and reliability, giving the car a digital identity. For example, when the car is lent out, two account data are stored, and the owner's personal data will not be shared with the person who borrows the car. The movie viewing data, driving habits data, etc. retained in the car will not be changed, and there is no need to worry about personal data security.
In short, the new Xiaopeng P5 can be said to be a leapfrog intelligent car, and it is also the correct answer for Xiaopeng Motors to continuously pursue the intelligentization of cars. It seems to really realize the evolution of cars from mobile travel tools to mobile intelligent spaces. Autonomous driving technology, intelligent voice interaction, life-oriented built-in functions, etc. are all accelerating the iteration of consumers' cognition of cars.
