Recently, Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen Group, said that Volkswagen will mass-produce and sell self-driving cars between 2025 and 2030. In the future, he will lead the group to a sustainable and successful future. This process will take about 10 years. To mitigate climate change, Volkswagen will electrify the power system, and the global neural network learning system and the continuous improvement of artificial intelligence will soon replace the driver, which is particularly important for future travel.

Diess said that the performance of computer chips required for self-driving cars is constantly improving, and the development of artificial intelligence is also accelerating this process. It can be foreseen that self-driving systems will soon be able to handle the complex situations encountered in self-driving.

It is learned that Volkswagen said in November that it would increase its investment in electric vehicles and autonomous vehicle technology from 60 billion euros in 2019 to about 73 billion euros (about 86 billion U.S. dollars), and part of the funds will be used for the group's new division Car.Software. The software division was established in June 2019 with the goal of building a dedicated software stack to be deployed in the Audi Artemis project to develop advanced autonomous electric vehicles.

Diess once pointed out that the Artemis project and the software department are the foundation of Volkswagen's R&D technology, especially digital technology, and the foundation of the entire group. This will drive Volkswagen's cars towards digital devices and provide consumers with unprecedented new choices, safety, comfort and sustainability.

Currently, Volkswagen's fleet accounts for about 1% of global CO2 emissions, and for this reason alone, the company has a responsibility to fight climate change. "My future goal is to lead the Group to a sustainable and successful future. The transformation of the global automotive industry will take about 10 years, with or without the Volkswagen Group," said Diess. "To mitigate climate change, we must electrify the powertrain, and global neural network learning systems and ever-improving artificial intelligence (especially situational awareness) will soon replace drivers, making personal mobility sustainable, extremely safe and convenient."

“To succeed in this new world, while ensuring prosperity for many, including those outside the Group, Volkswagen must transform radically: from a valuable collection of brands with many combustion-engined products that excite consumers, to a reliable digital company operating millions of mobile devices around the world, constantly communicating with consumers on a weekly (or ideally daily) basis, improving service, comfort and safety.”
