Apple has released its iPhone series in September in previous years, so this year everyone expected the iPhone 12 to be released at this fall conference. The iPhone 12 will have a new design, a metal case with square edges that has not been seen since the iPhone 5S, and updated cameras, a 120Hz screen, and support for 5G, which are all very much anticipated.
However, according to a report released by well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on Monday, Apple's autumn conference held in the early morning of September 16th Beijing time will mainly launch new Apple Watch and iPad products, but there will be no iPhone 12 series. He said that considering the time for mass production and shipment of products, this will be an Apple autumn conference without iPhone 12.
According to the invitation letter officially released by Apple, the theme of this autumn conference is "The Time Is Here". Foreign media Bloomberg said that this means that the protagonist of this autumn conference is the new generation of Apple Watch, not iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 supporting 5G network will meet consumers in October this year.
One new feature that the Apple Watch 6 may get is the ability to track temperature. This was spotted in an Apple patent for improved yoga tracking that could better judge your posture and energy expenditure, which could be used more broadly for health and fitness.
We've also heard a few rumors about the Apple Watch 6, including the possibility that it could feature a new screen type. The Apple Watch 5 used an OLED screen, but one report suggests the Apple Watch 6 could use microLED. The main advantage of microLED is that it should be more power efficient, which could mean longer battery life for the Apple Watch 6. Another possible change to the screen is the addition of a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Currently, the Apple Watch line doesn't have any biometric security, so having a scanner built into the screen would be a neat trick.
Regarding the iPad, the tablet has a design similar to the iPad Pro, four stereo speakers, a rear camera, a Liquid Retina display, and the A14 or A14X Bionic chipset (expected to be used in the iPhone 12). In summary, the iPad Air 4 looks more like an "iPad Pro Lite". In addition, it is rumored that the new iPad Air 2020 will have a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port that Apple devices tend to use, which is a change we really want to see. The USB-C port allows for faster charging speeds as well as faster data transfer speeds, so it is much more useful than Lightning for productivity and general use.
The new mobile software iOS 14 may also be released this time, compatible with iPhone 6S and later. Apple has already confirmed iOS 14, watchOS 7 and iPadOS 14 at the WWDC event earlier this year, and we may see the updates as early as the end of the month.
