Recently, IDC released a forecast report on the Chinese tablet computer market. The report shows that in the first quarter of 2020, China's tablet computer market shipments will decline by 30.1% year-on-year; in the second quarter, the decline in shipments will slow down, down 14.1% year-on-year.

According to IDC, the 2020 epidemic had a significant impact on the Chinese tablet market. Currently, commercial market shipments have basically stagnated in the first quarter. Although the demand for tablets in the consumer market has increased significantly due to people working from home and students taking online classes, the channels did not predict this and insufficient stocking has led to a shortage of tablets of various brands in the market. The continued shortage of workers has led to insufficient supply of upstream spare parts and slow resumption of work at foundries, making tablet shipments unable to meet the sudden increase in market demand.

However, IDC also said that due to the impact of the epidemic, the tablet market may see new business opportunities. Schools and other educational institutions will accelerate the process of electronic education, and more parents will accept the online education model. The use of tablets in the education industry will become more extensive. Enterprises will also pay more attention to the construction of "future work" and accelerate the replacement of terminal equipment such as tablets. Medical institutions will enter a new round of new construction, reconstruction and medical informatization, which will directly drive the demand for tablets in the medical industry.

At the same time, the long-term "stay-at-home culture" has increased the demand for tablets among audio-visual and gaming users. The closure of offline channel stores has prompted a large number of retail companies to turn to "live streaming sales", which in turn has driven the sales of tablets and other related live streaming equipment.

IDC China senior analyst Guo Tianxiang believes that the decline in shipments in 2020 will increase, but there are still opportunities amid the challenges.

In the short term, the problem of insufficient supply will continue for some time. As the epidemic gradually eases and various places begin to resume work and school, the new demand for tablet computers in the market will also slow down.

Therefore, seizing the dividends of tablet computer demand brought about by the epidemic as much as possible will play a crucial role in the performance of industry participants throughout the year.
