Indonesian officials revealed that Taiwan's electronics foundry Compal will set up a factory in Indonesia. Compal confirmed that Indonesian officials had visited the company earlier, and the company has tentatively planned to visit Indonesia in early September to evaluate whether to set up a factory in Indonesia. There is currently no timetable for setting up the factory.
According to foreign media reports, Indonesian Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto said that Compal is considering investing and setting up a factory in Indonesia, and Indonesia will also provide tax exemptions and other incentives.
Compal Vice Chairman Chen Ruicong recently pointed out that for Compal, the next 2-3 years will still be concentrated in Vietnam. After all, it would be difficult to manage too much dispersion. If it needs to disperse in the future, it should be to Taiwan and Vietnam.
As for other Southeast Asian regions and whether there are other expansion plans, Compal General Manager Weng Zongbin believes that the factors to be considered in the production area include population, ease of land acquisition, government efficiency, etc. Apart from Vietnam, everyone is still looking at the Philippines and India, but India is still dominated by mobile phones, and different companies will have different strategies.
Weng Zongbin said that the group's main notebook computer production base is still in mainland China, mainly because the Chongqing factory in mainland China had completed the expansion last year. Chen Ruicong also pointed out that the company has invested a lot of effort in Chongqing, and it is the group's goal to make every effort to increase the production capacity of the Chongqing factory and improve factory operations.
