Last night, Apple quietly lowered the price of upgrading hard drives. The price of upgrading 1TB solid-state drives on iMac, MacBook Pro and Mac mini models has dropped by $200 compared to the original price; the price of upgrading to 2TB solid-state drives on Mac mini and MacBook Pro has dropped by $400 compared to the previous price. The price of upgrading the MacBook Pro to a top-end 4TB solid-state drive is now $1,400, compared to $2,800 before, which is a 50% discount.

The purchase price of flash memory components has been falling recently, and the prices of memory cards and other items have actually been falling. Apple's move can be regarded as a response to the price reduction of flash memory.
