Efinix®, an innovator in programmable product platforms and technology, and M31 Technology Corporation (Taiwan Stock Code: 6643), a global boutique intellectual property (IP) developer, today announced a technology partnership to develop solutions that address emerging AI edge computing needs.

As part of this partnership, M31’s MIPI D-PHY RX and TX IP have been successfully integrated into Efinix’s Trion® FPGA platform. The integration provides multiple unidirectional link options, each up to 6 Gbps, providing high-bandwidth interfaces for next-generation FPGAs driving artificial intelligence markets such as HMI and displays, time-lapse cameras, automotive, surveillance cameras, machine vision, medical and infrared cameras.

“This collaboration between Efinix and M31, two emerging technology leaders, is the first FPGA family to feature MIPI D-PHY with a built-in royalty-free CSI-2 controller, the most commonly used camera interface in the mobile industry,” said Ming Ng, senior vice president of operations and applications at Efinix. “With our technology integration, our customers will have more logic to use in their imaging, camera, and sensor innovations.”

Allen Sha, President of M31 USA, said: “MIPI D-PHY RX and TX, as well as all M31 IPs such as USB1.1 to USB3.2, PCIe G2 to G3, and MIPI M-PHY, are silicon-proven interface IPs in multiple process technologies from various foundries. We are very pleased that Efinix has adopted M31 IP as its FPGA solution for mobile camera applications.”

Edge computing AI applications require high performance, low power consumption, and a simple out-of-box experience. Trion FPGAs with MIPI provide flexibility, low power consumption, small size, and low cost without sacrificing performance. With multiple MIPI TX and RX channels, Trion FPGAs can become a system transit station for multiple cameras and sensors. Using the built-in CSI-2 controller allows AI designers to use all FPGA resources for design.

The integration announced today is already being adopted by customers in vision sensor cameras with a variety of capabilities, including 3D, depth detection, High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDR), and 180-degree surround view.
