  • Siemens to build the world's first three-in-one comprehensive engineering service platform

  • It will help Chengdu transform and upgrade from a traditional automobile manufacturing base to a smart car R&D highland

Recently, Siemens Digital Industries Software and the Chengdu Municipal Government signed a cooperation agreement at the Chengdu Tianfu New City Conference Center, announcing that the two parties will work together to build the "Sino-German Intelligent Connected and New Energy Vehicle (Chengdu) Engineering Center" (hereinafter referred to as the Engineering Center) to promote the implementation of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's "Sino-German Cooperation Intelligent Connected Vehicle, Internet of Vehicles Standards and Test Verification Pilot Demonstration Project", accelerate the construction of the "Chengdu Intelligent Connected Future Automobile City", and help Chengdu transform and upgrade from a traditional automobile manufacturing base to a smart car R&D highland, and create a smart car ecosystem with digital innovation as the core.

As an important city in western China, Chengdu has always attached great importance to the development of the field of Internet of Vehicles (intelligent connected vehicles), and Siemens has leading technology and industry best practices in the field of Internet of Vehicles (intelligent connected vehicles), and has successively invested in and built a world-class digital factory and R&D innovation center in Chengdu. The engineering center signed and co-built this time will be Siemens' first comprehensive engineering service platform in the world that integrates intelligent connected and new energy vehicles, digital simulation and physical testing, and covers the entire value chain of smart cars from design to mass production.

To ensure that the engineering center reaches world-class standards, Siemens will integrate the R&D and laboratory resources of intelligent connected and new energy vehicles in Germany, France, Belgium, the United States and other countries around the world, and combine localized product development, simulation testing, system integration and other engineering and consulting service capabilities to build four functional modules for the engineering center: R&D service platform, engineering service platform, manufacturing service platform, and education and training platform. From the four aspects of R&D, engineering, manufacturing and talents, it will help Chengdu transform and upgrade from a traditional automobile manufacturing base to a highland for intelligent automobile R&D.

Tony Hemmelgarn, President and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries Software, said: "The signing of the engineering center is a major initiative of Siemens to empower Chengdu's automotive industry. Siemens will adopt a sustainable operating mechanism, continuously introduce the world's top technologies and best practices to empower local teams, cultivate innovative talents, incubate innovative companies, and drive the high-quality development of Chengdu's automotive industry through open innovation and digital innovation, and build China's 'Automotive Silicon Valley' and future automotive industry."

At present, the development of Internet of Vehicles (intelligent connected vehicles) has become one of the main tracks for the development of China's automobile industry. In the "Internet of Vehicles (Intelligent Connected Vehicles) Industry Development Action Plan" issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, it is proposed that by 2020, the cross-industry integration of the Internet of Vehicles (Intelligent Connected Vehicles) industry will achieve a breakthrough and initially establish an open, integrated and innovative industrial ecology. The signing of the contract between Siemens and Chengdu is the implementation of the relevant encouragement and guidance policies of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in Chengdu. Chengdu will also become a bridgehead for Siemens to strengthen Sino-German cooperation and the construction of the "Belt and Road".
