Royole Technology has attracted widespread attention for launching the world's first foldable phone, the FlexPai. The latest technology patent shows that Royole's innovation in bendable/foldable screens is not only reflected in the field of smartphones, but will also bring more desirable foldable smart watches.
As a new category of smart wearable products, smart watches have been gaining momentum this year. However, there are still many shortcomings in smart watches, such as small display area, short battery life and so on.
In addition, the fact that smart watches are too heavy is also a very serious problem. In response to this situation, Royole recently announced its latest patent. The patent shows that Royole will bring a folding/bending screen solution for smart watches, allowing smart watches to have a larger display area. These two patents were submitted in 2016 and 2017 respectively, and were recently included in the design library of the World Intellectual Property Office.
The patent named "wearable device" was filed on September 30, 2017, showing a smartwatch with a folding screen design similar to the Galaxy Fold. In normal mode, it is a compact screen, but it can be unfolded to the side to form a larger watch screen. Whether folded or unfolded, it can be touched and interacted, and the battery is integrated into the strap.
Another patent named "Smart Bracelet" was filed on September 29, 2016. The patent illustrations show a folding design similar to the above patent, but the unfolding method is different, providing a more slender screen space. It is not clear when Royole Technology will turn these two patents into reality, but they do provide new solutions to the problem of small screens in current smart watches.
