Recently, new energy research institution InfoLink Consulting released the global energy storage cell and system rankings for the first half of 2024.

In terms of energy storage cells, data shows that in the first half of 2024, global energy storage cell shipments will reach 114.5GWh, a year-on-year increase of 33.6%. Among them, large storage (including industrial and commercial) is 101.9 GWh, and small storage (including communications) is 12.6 GWh.

In terms of energy storage systems, the InfoLink Global Lithium Battery Supply Chain Database pointed out that global energy storage system shipments in the first half of 2024 will be about 90GWh.

TOP 10 energy storage cells, 9 of which are Chinese companies!

The top 10 companies in terms of global energy storage cell shipments in the first half of 2024 are CATL , EVE Energy , Ruipu Lanjun, Haichen Energy Storage, BYD , Sinotruk, Guoxuan High-tech , Samsung SDI, Envision Power, and Penghui Energy.

Obviously, in the first half of 2024, except for Samsung SDI, which is a Korean company, the other 9 companies are all from China!

LG Energy Solution, which was still on the list in 2023, has dropped out of the list and was replaced by Envision Power.

It is worth mentioning that although the companies in the TOP5 are the same 5 Chinese companies, their rankings have changed compared to 2023, with EVE Energy, Ruipu Lanjun and Haichen Energy Storage all rising one place.

Although Sinotruk ranks sixth, its upward momentum is strong, rising four places compared to 2023. It is understood that in the world's largest energy storage project with a capacity of up to 7.8GWh, which Sungrow recently won the bid for, more than 1,500 PowerTitan2.0 liquid-cooled energy storage systems equipped with nearly 7.8 million battery cells will be deployed. The first batch of high-performance battery cells are independently developed by Sinotruk.

It would not be surprising to see China New Energy Airlines climb further up the list in the second half of 2024.

Other data worth noting include: In the first half of the year, the top five companies in terms of energy storage cell shipments had a combined market share of 73.2%, up 1.8 percentage points from the first quarter. The top ten companies accounted for a total of 91% of the global market share, maintaining a historically high level.

Last year, Samsung SDI and LG Energy Solution ranked sixth and eighth respectively. At that time, the combined market share of the two companies' shipments was about 7%.

In the latest list, Samsung SDI's ranking slipped to 8th. And even if LG Energy Solution is included, the combined market share of the two has dropped to 5%.

InfoLink Consulting also pointed out that the global market share of 300 Ah+ large-capacity energy storage cells has approached 30%. In the second quarter, mainstream energy storage manufacturers have begun shipping 300 Ah+ products, and some manufacturers' 300 Ah+ product shipments accounted for more than 50%.

Obviously, driven by the demand for cost reduction and efficiency improvement, 300 Ah+ large-capacity energy storage cells are rapidly replacing 280 Ah to become the mainstream of the market.

Ruipu Lanjun is in a leading position in the competition of large-capacity energy storage cells. Recently, the company has launched two energy storage cells, Wending 587Ah and 625Ah. It is understood that the two energy storage cells, Wending 587Ah and 625Ah, are expected to be mass-produced in Q1 and Q2 next year.

Fierce competition in energy storage systems

Among the global energy storage systems with a shipment volume of approximately 90GWh, InfoLink Consulting divides the statistics into two parts: the AC side and the DC side.

Energy storage system integrators refer to companies that provide complete energy storage system products to customers for the purpose of carrying out energy storage system integration business. The AC side energy storage system includes a complete set of AC and DC equipment, which can be directly connected to the power grid, while the DC side does not include AC side equipment and is mainly based on batteries . Currently, mainstream system integrators generally provide complete AC and DC solutions.

The top five energy storage system integrators in terms of AC shipments are Tesla , Sungrow, CRRC Zhuzhou Research Institute, Fluence and Envision Energy, with a combined shipment of over 30 GWh.

The top five system integrators in terms of DC side shipments are CATL, BYD, Hibistron, Yuanxin Energy Storage and Narada Power. The combined shipments of the five companies exceed 20 GWh.

In terms of AC side shipments, Sungrow has achieved remarkable results in overseas markets. In contrast, CRRC Zhuzhou Institute is more focused on the domestic market.

It is worth mentioning that Envision Energy not only provides battery cells but also serves as an energy storage system integrator. According to reports, Envision Energy recently won the bid for two energy storage projects in the UK and became a supplier to Abu Dhabi's Masdar Energy, providing a complete set of AC and DC energy storage equipment, site SCADA and EMS systems for two projects under its British subsidiary Arlington Energy, Welkin Road and Royle Barn Road. The projects are expected to be connected to the grid and delivered in the first half of 2025. Both projects are 2-hour energy storage systems.

The future development prospects of Envision Energy are bright.
