It is reported that this technology controls the vehicle to drive on the correct track by predicting the vehicle's driving trajectory and combining automatic steering, clutch, and throttle technology. It can also control the vehicle's balance in scenarios such as straight driving, turning, and drifting. This enables automatic identification of obstacles on the track and drifting to avoid them. To ensure the perfection of the drifting posture, Toyota Research Institute also cooperated with professional drift racing drivers to enable the program to better learn the drifting posture in order to achieve a drifting effect comparable to that of humans.
However, the development of this technology did not originate from racing, but is an autonomous driving technology that prevents collisions in unforeseen situations. Through this technology, the vehicle posture can be controlled through autonomous driving technology, so that the body posture and vehicle movement can be controlled in low-grip conditions such as snow and icy roads to better avoid obstacles.
Previously, the autonomous driving technologies developed by various car companies can often only achieve limited autonomous driving under normal road conditions. The autonomous driving technology developed by Toyota can achieve intelligent obstacle avoidance in low-friction scenarios, and can to a certain extent solve the problem that manual driving cannot control the vehicle in this scenario, thereby improving vehicle safety.
