On June 11, 2021, Toyota Motor America launched its next-generation multimedia solution. It is expected to be installed in the new Lexus NX in the fourth quarter of 2021, and will gradually be widely promoted under the Toyota brand.
【1】Size 8~14 inches
The next generation multimedia system has a touch screen display ranging in size from 8 inches to 14 inches, depending on the model. In the case of 14 inches, it is a large touch screen display, and many functions are integrated into one switch, paying attention to the size, shape, layout, display information and other details of the switch. Toyota also considers the frequency of use of each function, seeking the best arrangement and shape for intuitive operation.

The next-generation multimedia system is said to be five times more powerful than the current system. It has improved processing power to perform faster and more sensitive touch functions. All touch screens provide a user experience that reflects the functions of a smartphone. And this 14-inch touch display provides low reflection and clear screen display by filling the gap between the glass panel and the liquid crystal through an anti-reflective coating on the front glass panel.

The vehicle system also uses map information from the cloud to process traffic conditions in real time. Software updates via wireless communication (OTA) can also enable functional updates of advanced safety equipment without having to go to dealers. The OTA software update function can update software via wireless communication to improve the display content and operability of peripheral devices such as multimedia and add new functions.
The new human-machine interface (HMI) has improved graphical user interface (GUI), voice input and animation to enhance visual, touch and voice interaction with users. The animation built into the multimedia system has also changed.

The system can also select streaming music sources based on genre and preferences, such as AM, FM, SiriusXM Radio, Apple Music and Amazon Music. The new-generation multimedia system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto.
The newly developed Virtual Assistant (VA) is designed to interact with the next-generation multimedia system. The latest voice recognition function has been introduced, which can be activated not only by operating the torque switch on the steering wheel, but also by operating the microphone icon on the display. By calling "hey/hi/hello/ok", you can start the voice recognition function without stopping switch operation or playing music, and it can respond to natural language and talk to the vehicle.
The "My Settings function" allows you to register personal settings to the vehicle, corresponding to multimedia settings such as the navigation system and audio in addition to conventional vehicle settings such as driving position and lighting. Not only the smart key but also the smartphone can recognize the user. The multimedia settings are stored in the data center and can be used for different vehicles.
【5】Full promotion of digital keys
Modern navigation systems can use voice commands and touch displays to search for routes and find points of interest. Google's Points of Interest (POI) data is integrated to provide up-to-date search capabilities. The discovery system can be used with or without a network connection. Offline mode is set to detect when the vehicle enters an unconnected or less connected area and pre-download relevant maps or services.
If you install the dedicated app on your smartphone, you can use your smartphone as a digital key. If you carry your smartphone, you can lock, unlock, and start the engine without screen activation, and you can do it with just one smartphone, even if you have multiple cars that support digital keys. Digital keys can be passed between smartphones, allowing family and friends to use each other's vehicles.
Safety Connect allows drivers to connect with emergency responders at all times. The control center can detect the exact location of the vehicle and dispatch emergency services or assist in the discovery of a stolen vehicle. Service Connect allows drivers to subscribe to receive maintenance updates, vehicle status reports and service notifications via a smartphone app.
