Recently, it was revealed that Hyundai Mobis, the parts division of Hyundai Motor Group, is negotiating with a Korean fabless chip company to develop its own automotive chips.
According to previous news, many Korean automakers have temporarily stopped production due to chip shortages. Hyundai Motor announced in April and May this year that factories in Ulsan, Asan, and Masan would suspend production. Among them, the Ulsan plant in South Korea suspended some production for 1 to 2 days during the week of May 17; Hyundai Motor's Asan plant stopped production again from April 19 to 20; Hyundai Motor suspended the operation of the Masan plant from April 12 to 13; Ulsan Plant 1 in South Korea suspended operations from April 7 to April 14. The plant is responsible for the production of Ioniq 5 pure electric vehicles and Kona compact SUVs.
As production plants have been shut down one after another, the production of Hyundai Azera, Sotana, pure electric IONIQ5 and KONA models has been affected. In addition, it is reported that the delivery period of Hyundai Langdong has been extended to 4 months.
