On April 27, LeddarTech, a leader in L1 to L5 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) sensing technology, launched Leddar™ Sight, a rugged, cost-effective 2D solid-state LiDAR (laser radar) sensor equipped with a windproof and rainproof housing.
The LiDAR uses flash illumination to continuously and accurately detect objects and obstacles throughout the field of view without any moving parts. Leddar Sigh was developed to meet the stringent requirements of mobility, ITS and industrial system developers for LiDAR to provide reliable and persistent perception in challenging environments.

Based on the field-proven reliability of the Leddar M16 2D Flash LiDAR module series, Leddar Sight uses a 100% solid-state design to ensure ruggedness. To meet the most demanding commercial and industrial application requirements, the sensor is also tested for shock and vibration. In addition, it also has a weatherproof housing (protection rating IP67/IP69) to prevent dust ingress and prevent water intrusion when submerged.
Leddar Sight has a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 400,000 hours, 26 times that of mechanical LiDAR. Not only that, it also meets high EMC standards and has a wide operating temperature range.
The Leddar Sight 2D flash LiDAR provides accurate detection and measurement capabilities for a variety of indoor and outdoor applications. Indoor applications include industrial automation, while outdoor applications include automatic navigation, obstacle detection, collision avoidance, precision manipulation, speed enforcement, and automatic toll collection. With its rugged housing, M12 connector, and various FoV options, the sensor can be quickly integrated into prototype vehicles and collect field data for software development. Currently, the sensor is available in batches to customers, system integrators, and distributors for commercial deployment.
Leddar Sight is an ideal LiDAR solution for shuttles, self-driving taxis, ADVs, commercial trucks, buses, industrial vehicles, mobile robots, and intelligent transportation systems.
“This new product meets customer demand for reliable, cost-effective LiDAR sensors that can operate in challenging environments such as shock, vibration, water ingress, and dust ingress,” said Daniel Aitken, Vice President of Global Marketing, Communications, and Product Management at LeddarTech. “Unlike mechanical LiDARs, Leddar Sight uses a proven solid-state flash design that provides a much longer MTBF. In addition, Leddar Sight’s rugged housing enables 24/7 operation in the harshest commercial and industrial environments.”
