According to foreign media reports, Israeli startup Vayyar has launched a radar chip that can identify the location of passengers in the car, their body shape, vital signs, and posture analysis, and classify passengers. It also provides a 360° map of the outside environment, including monitoring other vehicles, objects, and pedestrians around the vehicle. The company's single-chip imaging radar builds a real-time, high-resolution 4D visual map of the inside and outside of the car by acquiring dynamic point clouds. The single-chip point cloud can display the size, shape, position, and movement of people and objects, and can fully classify the car environment no matter how bad the lighting conditions are or how bad the weather conditions are.
Vayyar's in-car solutions include seatbelt reminders, optimized airbag deployment, posture control, driver drowsiness alerts, infant detection alerts, and even alerts if a baby is covered by a blanket or hidden in a vehicle seat or footwell. Vayyar's in-car solutions include a map of the car's surroundings and classification of the environment, enabling parking assistance, blind spot detection, lane change assistance, automatic speed and distance control, and alerts about high obstacles and other obstacles.
“Existing radar solutions do not offer 4D point cloud capabilities,” said Ian Podkamien, head of automotive business development at Vayyar Imaging. “Vayyar’s 4D point cloud solution is the first to combine the robustness of radar with the resolution of lidar and optical devices, and it works in all environmental conditions without compromising personal privacy.”
Vayyar's radar chip (ROC) has 48 receivers and operates at frequencies between 76 and 81 GHz. The chip also includes a DSP for real-time signal processing. Such a single-chip solution can be easily integrated into the current automotive framework, reducing the overall cost of the vehicle and the number of sensors required.
