With the development of autonomous driving technology, vehicles are becoming more and more intelligent, but they are also facing the risk of being "remotely hijacked by hackers". In order to prevent this from happening, on May 30, during the 6th International Intelligent Connected Vehicle Technology Annual Conference CICV 2019, the "V2X Security Certification and Protection System" was officially released.

The system realizes V2X direct communication authentication and interoperability across vehicle manufacturers in China. It was jointly released by China Automotive (Beijing) Intelligent Connected Vehicle Research Institute Co., Ltd., China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China Unicom Intelligent Network Technology Co., Ltd., China Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. Research Institute, Tianyi IoT Technology Co., Ltd., and Tus-Cloud Control (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd.

Yan Gang, general manager of GAC Intelligent Network, said: "Intelligent connected vehicles cannot exist without V2X, and V2X cannot exist without a security authentication and protection system." In response to the common basic technical difficulties such as the authenticity, integrity and privacy protection of direct communication information during the operation of intelligent connected vehicles, and based on V2X's requirements for high-speed mobility and low latency in communication, GAC Intelligent Network established a "V2X security authentication and protection system" and a trusted authentication security platform.

Yiou Auto learned on site that the key to this system is to ensure that information is not tampered with or forged. After a third party authenticates the public key, a certificate similar to an electronic ID card will be formed, indicating the uniqueness of the communication entity. When a vehicle sends a BSM (Basic Security Message) message, it will first be calculated through a private key to form a data signature. At this time, the vehicle will send out the "BSM+signature+certificate" message together; the V2X message recipient verifies the signature, accepts the information, and other methods to prevent the reception of tampered and forged messages, ensuring authenticity and integrity.

In terms of privacy protection, the "V2X Security Authentication Protection System" uses the method of continuously issuing certificates in batches from the cloud to provide vehicles with randomly usable certificates to protect privacy and security. At the same time, Luo Yingluo, project director of the National Automotive Intelligent Connected Platform Technology Division, introduced that the system also has many characteristics such as wide coverage, large capacity, anti-repudiation, commercial secret algorithm, fast processing, high reliability, and advancement.

She said that as a third-party platform, AVIC Intelligent Network hopes to open up a variety of trusted channels, such as the LTCA module built by the car manufacturer itself (generating an identity based on vehicle information and storing it in the V2X terminal of the corresponding vehicle), the SIM card pre-installed certificate provided by the operator, etc., to verify the original authentication information of the vehicle and build a platform covering a variety of application scenarios.

At present, the development of the system has been completed. It is expected that the cloud system will be opened to the public in July this year, and a public testing platform will be released for car manufacturers and V2X terminal manufacturers to conduct interactive tests. In October, a test bed will be formed and "four-cross" tests will be carried out. By the end of the year, a verification field and demonstration area will be initially built.

EoAuto believes that with the development of the industry, various standards are also in urgent need of being introduced. After the system is released, how to promote it to more car companies may be the core work of the next stage.
