Northwest Power Grid's energy storage installed capacity exceeds 10 million kilowatts

Recently, it was learned from the State Grid that the Northwest Power Grid will add 8.71 million kilowatts of energy storage installed capacity in 2023, including 8.41 million kilowatts of new energy storage and 300,000 kilowatts of pumped storage. By the end of 2023, the total installed capacity of energy storage in the Northwest Power Grid will reach 10.79 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 4.19 times, achieving a new breakthrough in the regulating power supply of the Northwest Power Grid.

It is understood that this winter, the peak capacity of regulating power sources such as energy storage and pumped storage in the Northwest Power Grid reached 5.43 million kilowatts, and the cumulative peak power exceeded 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours, playing an important role in ensuring supply and supporting the process of responding to extreme weather. The Northwest Branch of the State Grid has arranged the "one pump and two launches" of pumped storage on a regular basis, optimized the use of new energy storage regulation resources, and increased the cumulative consumption of new energy electricity by 2.07 billion kilowatt-hours in 2023, increasing the utilization rate of new energy by 0.6 percentage points.

At present, Northwest Power Grid is building 15 pumped storage power stations with a total installed capacity of 23.6 million kilowatts. It plans to put into operation 2.3 million kilowatts of pumped storage units and 10.61 million kilowatts of new energy storage by the end of the year. By then, the total installed capacity of energy storage in Northwest Power Grid will exceed 20 million kilowatts, providing a more solid guarantee for ensuring reliable power supply and promoting the consumption of new energy.
