UL Solutions and Hyundai Mobis North America Electrified Powertrain Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Collaborate on Improving Electric Vehicle Battery Safety and Performance
As global electric vehicle adoption continues to rise, the new collaboration aims to improve the safety of electric vehicle battery technology and promote its wider use.
NORTHBROOK, Ill., Jan. 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- UL Solutions, a global expert in applied safety science, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hyundai Mobis North America Electrified Powertrain LLC, a subsidiary of Hyundai Mobis, a global automotive parts company focused on autonomous driving, connectivity and electrification, to collaborate on the safety and performance of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. This collaboration will provide confidence that safer, higher-performing EV batteries will emerge in the supply chain as electric vehicles become more popular around the world.
Representatives from UL Solutions and Hyundai Mobis celebrated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at UL Solutions headquarters in Northbrook, Illinois. The MoU lays the foundation for collaboration between the two companies on electric vehicle battery safety and performance.
Under the MOU, the two companies will collaborate in evaluating electric vehicle battery performance in North America, including verifying battery reliability, performance and safety parameters, and will also conduct electric vehicle battery testing to ensure that they meet regulatory requirements. This work will be primarily conducted at the UL Solutions North American Advanced Battery Laboratory, which is expected to be operational in Auburn Hills, Michigan, by mid-2024. In addition, Hyundai Mobis North America Electrified Powertrain has also committed to participating in the work of the Electric Vehicle Safety and Performance Standards Development Working Group with UL Solutions.

Hyundai Mobis currently operates nine EV production bases around the world and is building six new EV production bases in South Korea, North America and Indonesia. The company will continue to expand its investment and actively cooperate with leading institutions in the field of electrification.
