  • Trina Solar's vertically integrated TrinaStorage Elementa wins multiple large-scale battery energy storage project opportunities in the UK and Germany, with a capacity of hundreds of MWh
  • Trina Solar launches its self-developed energy management system E²MS at Intersolar Europe 2023 to maximize control of Trina's grid-scale batteries and improve their efficiency and sustainability

MUNICH, Aug. 2, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Trina Energy, a global energy storage solutions provider, recently announced that its flagship product Elementa (grid-scale battery energy storage system), which was exhibited at Intersolar Europe 2023, has won hundreds of MWh of BESS projects in the UK and German markets, marking the beginning of the Elementa gigawatt era.

Full-size Trina Storage Elementa

Combined with self-developed EMS platform, creating better solutions

During this year's Intersolar EU, Trina Energy Storage showcased the mass-produced TrinaStorage Elementa physical cabinet in the overseas market for the first time. The company's R&D projects cover all areas of battery manufacturing and have strong integration capabilities in Changzhou, China. Elementa products are equipped with self-developed potassium iron phosphate batteries, integrated with a multi-level battery management system and combustible gas sensors to improve the conversion efficiency, service life and safety of the products; the DC bus design with fast interconnection between cabinets greatly improves flexibility and installation speed, thereby providing more advanced and safer grid-level assets with better cost-effectiveness.

SMS plc is an important overseas customer of Trina Energy Storage. Its grid-scale battery energy storage technology director Liam Breathnach visited Trina Energy Storage's China headquarters in May this year and said: "This is the first time I have seen the Elementa product in person. From the first glance, it fully takes into account all the key factors we need to look for: such as operation and maintenance requirements, and the difficulty of solving problems or maintaining products."

In order to maximize the performance of battery energy storage and better control power station assets, Trina Energy Storage also launched a professional energy management system E²MS at this European Intersolar. E²MS is a control platform that fully integrates software and hardware, which perfectly matches Trina Energy Storage's grid-level battery energy storage system (BESS) solution. It is based on a layered system architecture and includes a programmable logic controller (PLC), a data acquisition and monitoring server (SCADA) and a power metering system. E²MS integrates advanced algorithms, intelligent control strategies and dedicated hardware interfaces to accurately collect, analyze and interpret real-time and historical data of the battery system, helping customers achieve optimal battery energy storage system control, efficiency conversion, and improve project sustainability. In the long run, it can also further achieve safer operation, higher system performance and more optimized project returns.

TrinaStorage Elementa leads the way with more than 1GWh of projects under construction

Trina Energy Storage's flagship product Elementa has secured hundreds of megawatt-hours of battery energy storage projects overseas, strategically expanding its low-carbon footprint across Europe. Recently, Trina Energy Storage announced that it will provide two battery energy storage projects to DIF Capital Partners, an independent infrastructure fund management company founded in 2005, to add another 180 megawatt-hours to Trina Energy Storage's photovoltaic energy storage projects in the UK. The two projects are the 50MW/100MWh Warley project and the 40MW/80MWh Sundon project in eastern England, both of which are 2-hour solar photovoltaic energy storage projects. Trina Energy Storage will provide the TrinaStorage Elementa solution for the two projects. When the demand for new energy fluctuates, the Elementa solution can shift the peak power generation of the photovoltaic system and increase the resilience and flexibility of the destination power station. The Warley and Sundon projects are expected to be connected to the grid and put into operation by the end of 2024.

Commenting on the new projects, Terry Chen, Head of Overseas Energy Storage Business, said: "Our market-leading energy storage solutions can meet the most demanding grid service key performance indicators and stand the test of time. We are further enhancing our R&D, manufacturing, integration and testing capabilities; now we are well prepared to support the continued development of the renewable energy industry and make a significant contribution to the global energy transition."
