Lithium-ion battery manufacturer SVOLT has launched an LFP-based ESS solution, which previously focused on batteries for the electric vehicle (EV) market.

The Jiangsu, China-based company, which has operations in Europe, said its energy storage units (ESUs) are now available, using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology.

The company said the CE Series ESU is a “highly modular and standardized energy storage solution” that can help enable renewable energy integration, dynamic capacity expansion, demand-side energy management, distributed generation, emergency power supply and electric vehicle fast charging.

The solution uses a 280AH and 3.2V battery, and it has a medium-sized system with advanced thermal management and fire prevention mechanisms. The company also has a "cloud-based regional energy supply big data service platform."

"Starting from 2023, modular liquid-cooled ESS components will be officially launched on the market. In the same year, CATL also plans to provide supporting smart energy professional services."

SVOLT, a subsidiary of automaker Great Wall Motors, has so far mainly announced deals with the auto industry, including its parent company.

This is the latest example of a vertically integrated battery manufacturer adding BESS products to its product line, becoming a direct competitor to system integrators such as Fluence, Wartsila and Tesla. Other companies that have done so include BYD, LG Energy Solutions, CATL and Samsung SDI.

SVOLT was the world’s second-most-funded battery storage company last year, behind Sweden’s Northvolt, according to Mercom data. It raised $2.6 billion in two funding rounds.

The company plans to build new super factories in Germany, India and China. It is said that Honeycomb Energy will invest 2 billion euros in the factory in Saarland, Germany. Currently, about two dozen companies are building lithium battery super factories in Europe.
