On January 22, the second phase of Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium Battery's 10GWh new lithium battery project was put into production and the global launch ceremony of the Dongfeng-Ganfeng solid-state battery E70 demonstration operation vehicle was held in Xinyu. The fully automated production line with an annual output of 10GWh new lithium batteries will be put into operation, and Ganfeng's lithium power and energy storage battery production capacity will be greatly improved; the first batch of 50 Dongfeng E70 electric vehicles equipped with Ganfeng solid-state batteries were officially delivered, and the commercialization path of solid-state batteries has become clearer.
Xu Hong, deputy secretary of the Xinyu Municipal Party Committee and mayor, Shu Yongzhong, deputy mayor of Xinyu, Yu Guojie, secretary of the Party Working Committee of the High-tech Zone, You Zheng, deputy general manager of Dongfeng Motor Group, Tan Minqiang, director of the Technical Center of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd., Li Liangbin, chairman of Ganfeng Lithium, and Ge Zhimin, president of Ganfeng Lithium Battery, and other leaders attended the ceremony.
Li Liangbin, Chairman of Ganfeng Lithium, pointed out in his speech: "Today, we are the first to realize the industrialization of solid-state lithium batteries and have achieved vehicle installation and operation for the first time with Dongfeng Motor. This is of epoch-making significance in my country's lithium battery industry and a milestone event in the industry."
10GWh project put into production, Ganfeng lithium battery production capacity reaches a new level
The second phase of Ganfeng Lithium Power Plant has a total construction area of 330,000 square meters and a designed annual production capacity of 10GWh, including production lines for lithium iron phosphate square hard-shell cells, soft-pack cells and solid-state batteries. This is also the largest capacity increase of Ganfeng Lithium since its establishment. "As a benchmark project, the Ganfeng new lithium battery project took less than 10 months from groundbreaking to completion and production, fully demonstrating the Ganfeng spirit and creating the Ganfeng speed." Yu Guojie, secretary of the Party Working Committee of the High-tech Zone, fully recognized the construction capacity of Ganfeng Lithium Battery Project.
The project further improved the intelligence, automation and standardization of Ganfeng's lithium battery production line and optimized product quality control capabilities; the highly integrated automated production line is more than three times more efficient than traditional manual operations. Relying on the real-time feedback and traceability capabilities of the entire ERP and MES, supplemented by advanced coating, film making, winding and other production equipment and processes, product consistency is more guaranteed.
"This project is a demonstration and test of the capabilities of Ganfeng Battery's technical management team," Li Liangbin pointed out. "After the project reaches full production, it will further expand the scale of Xinyu City's lithium battery industry, enhance the concentration of the lithium battery industry, drive the development of the lithium battery industry, and provide strong support for building a global lithium battery highland."
In recent years, with the continuous maturity in technology, products, and markets, Ganfeng Lithium has deployed multiple lithium battery projects in Xinyu, Huizhou, Chongqing, etc., involving power, energy storage, consumer electronics, solid-state batteries, etc. With the commissioning of the second phase of the power plant project, Ganfeng Lithium's battery production capacity will be more comprehensively improved in the future.
Dongfeng + Ganfeng's commercialization attempt of solid-state electric vehicles
In the first batch of mass-produced electric vehicles, solid-state batteries use solid materials such as solid electrolyte membranes, which thoroughly improve battery safety and energy density from the perspective of material systems. In multiple tests, solid-state batteries have maintained excellent safety characteristics under harsh conditions such as needle puncture, extrusion or high temperature.
"Dongfeng Technology Center and Ganfeng Lithium Battery have cooperated for many years in the research and development of solid-state batteries." In addition to reviewing the cooperation process, You Zheng, deputy general manager of Dongfeng Group, also expressed his expectations for the future. "The global debut of the Dongfeng-Ganfeng high-energy-density solid-state battery demonstration operation will be the first to launch the first solid-state battery industrialization in my country."
Shi Jianpeng, project leader of Dongfeng Technology Center, also affirmed the great value of the solid-state project: "Solid-state batteries are the most promising next-generation power battery technology due to their high specific energy, high safety, and easy recycling. They can effectively solve the problem that traditional lithium batteries cannot balance safety and energy density. Through the cooperation between Dongfeng and Ganfeng, we have made a breakthrough in truly mass-producing solid-state batteries and realizing demonstration operations!"
The concept of solid-state batteries has a long history. Dr. Xu Xiaoxiong, the leader of Ganfeng Lithium's solid-state battery team, has more than 20 years of solid-state research and development experience. How to transform technical capabilities into product strength is a question that Ganfeng and the entire industry have been thinking about. With the gradual advancement of the solid-state battery demonstration operation project with Dongfeng, the two parties finally confirmed the core idea of mass production of real vehicles and real-life testing, and completed product iteration in actual combat.
After the delivery is completed, Ganfeng Lithium Battery will make appropriate adjustments to the product based on the actual driving and charging conditions of the electric vehicle, gradually improve the application experience of the power battery, and continue to improve its key parameters such as safety and energy density, and make application-oriented improvements to solid-state battery products.
