With the advancement of the "30·60" dual carbon goals, the scale of new energy installed capacity in my country and even the world continues to increase, and the power industry will undergo tremendous changes. Due to the volatility and peak-to-valley difference of new energy power generation, large-scale energy storage is becoming an increasingly important supporting part of the power system.

At present, pumped storage and electrochemical energy storage are the mainstream solutions for achieving large-scale power storage and balance curves, but pumped storage has high requirements for site selection, large investment, and long cycle, and electrochemical energy storage faces problems such as energy density and safety. In contrast, compressed air energy storage has opened up a new path. This technology has a long life cycle, is safe and environmentally friendly, has low cost, occupies a small area, and can also realize the reuse of abandoned salt cavern resources. It is another important direction for the development of energy storage.

Against the backdrop of the "30·60" strategic goal, China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. issued the "Action Plan (White Paper) for Implementing the "30·60" Strategic Goal of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality", pointing out that energy storage will be one of the two basic points in its own development path, and it will fully enter related industries. China Energy Engineering Digital Technology Group Co., Ltd. actively responded to the strategic call of China Energy Engineering, taking compressed air energy storage as the technical route entry point, and comprehensively carried out project development work. China Energy Engineering Digital Technology Group Co., Ltd. and China Netcom Hubei Integrated Energy Services Co., Ltd. jointly invested in the construction of a 300MW compressed air energy storage power station demonstration project in Yingcheng, Hubei. The project organized a feasibility study review meeting in Wuhan from December 29 to 30.

The review meeting was hosted by China Electric Power Planning and Design Institute. 23 units attended the meeting, including Hubei Provincial Energy Bureau, Xiaogan Municipal People's Government, Yingcheng Municipal People's Government, Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Science and Technology Information Equipment Division of China Energy Engineering Group, China Electric Power Planning and Design Institute, China Energy Construction Digital Technology Group, Planning and Design Group, Central South Electric Power Design Institute, Jiangsu Electric Power Design Institute, China Energy Equipment Company, State Grid Hubei Electric Power Co., Ltd. and its subordinate State Grid Hubei Comprehensive Energy Company, State Grid Hubei Electric Power Company Electric Power Research Institute, State Grid Hubei Electric Power Company Xiaogan Power Supply Company, Shaanxi Blower (Group) Co., Ltd., Shenyang Blower Group, Dongfang Electric Group Dongfang Turbine Co., Ltd., Shanghai Electric Power Plant Equipment Co., Ltd., Harbin Steam Turbine Plant Co., Ltd., etc. Yang Chunhe, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was invited to attend the meeting.

At the meeting, Wan Mingzhong, Chairman of China Energy Construction Digital Technology Group, introduced the urgency and necessity of developing large-scale energy storage, and pointed out that compressed air energy storage technology will help increase the proportion of renewable energy power generation, effectively support the energy revolution, and play an important role in the construction of new power systems. As the largest single-unit compressed air energy storage project in China, the 300MW demonstration project in Yingcheng, Hubei, has a significant demonstration role and strategic significance for the development of large-scale compressed air energy storage technology and the recycling of salt cavern resources.

After listening to the speeches of the leaders of the relevant units and the overall report of the feasibility study, the experts at the meeting discussed in groups according to their specialties and formed a review summary. In the next stage, each unit will further optimize the project design plan and technical route according to the review opinions, and incubate a set of mature, reliable, technologically advanced, and economically feasible compressed air energy storage solutions to provide "energy construction solutions", contribute "energy construction wisdom", and contribute "energy construction strength" to the construction of a new power system with new energy as the main body.

During the meeting, Yang Chunhe, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a researcher at the Wuhan Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave an in-depth interpretation of the significance and value of the project. He believes that this project will have a good demonstration effect on balancing the power grid and may drive an increase in the proportion of energy storage power stations in the energy structure.

The convening of the review meeting marks that China Energy Engineering has achieved phased results and substantial breakthroughs in the field of compressed air energy storage, and also points out the direction for subsequent work.
